Troop 310's Scuba Adventure

Tina Schoch Published:

In June, Boy Scout Troop 310, chartered at St. Matthew Church in Ellet, went on a 7 day trip of a lifetime to the Bahamas. After 2 years of planning by Scoutmaster Phil Schoch of Tallmadge, a group of 17 boys and leaders sailed on a live-aboard 65 ft schooner (via Blackbeard Cruises). For most of the group, this was their first time scuba-diving since getting their certification.  A lot of hard work and planning ended in an unforgetable trip.  Besides diving amongst beautiful reefs and tropical fish, highlights included: a visit to Gilligan's Island, shark encounter, night dive, campfire on a small island, swimming with pigs and fishing. One lucky scout caught a large mahi-mahi and it was cooked for dinner by the chefs that night.  Except for the cooking, all work aboard the ship was done by the scouts and leaders.
