Tallmadge DECA advances to state competition

The Tallmadge DECA chapter will advance to the state level of competition March 17 and 18 in Columbus. Qualifiers at state will then move on to the national level in Anaheim, Calif. The Tallmadge DECA chapter attended the DECA District 11 competition Jan. 11 where the team competed against nine other area high school DECA chapters in the areas of marketing, business and management. Tallmadge DECA had 18 participants in the district competition and all 18 members earned a medal for placing in the top five of their event. Students competed in the areas of Marketing Management, Retail Merchandising, Automotive Services, Business Finance, Travel & Tourism, Buying & Merchandising, Human Resources, Hospitality Management, and Sports & Entertainment. Jake Perrin and Vinnie Sgro placed first in Buying and Merchandising, Zach Davis and Brogan Burns placed second in Buying and Merchandising, Melissa Speelman and Heather Hines placed second in Marketing Management, James Novello and Anthony Ibarra placed third in Sports and Entertainment, Erin Parsons and Vanessa Lane placed third in Financial Services, Alexis Garrett placed second in Human Resources, and Alisa Hasanagic placed third in Automotive Services. Both team and individual DECA events consist of a comprehensive marketing exam and completion of a case study presented to a judge.
