CINCINNATI (AP) -- The mother of a Cincinnati teenager fatally shot by police is suing the officers involved, refuting the department's statement that he fired at them first.
Police shot and killed 19-year-old Dontez O'Neal on Nov. 21 after police say he led them on a chase following an undercover drug deal.
In a lawsuit filed in federal court on Wednesday, family attorney Eric Deters refutes the department's statements that O'Neal had shot at officers.
The lawsuit accuses Officer Orlando Smith and several other unnamed officers of shooting O'Neal four times as he sat in the driver's seat of his car. The suit says the only thing O'Neal did wrong was try to flee police.
Cincinnati police did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the lawsuit.
