Burglary

Electronics taken from residence: Residents of a Linda Street home reported a burglary took place Aug. 19 between 5:40 at 8 p.m. Missing from the residence was a $400 game system, two game system controllers valued at $120, a $400 computer tower and a 42-inch LED TV valued at $600.

Theft

Rented cement saw removed from trailer at construction site: An Akron man doing construction work on Colony Park Drive told police sometime between Aug. 17 and 19, someone removed a $795 cement saw from his trailer which was parked at the construction site. The item had been rented from Gauer Rental.

Wireless headphones stolen from middle school locker: The mother of a Tallmadge Middle School student told police Aug. 18 someone removed her son's $200 wireless headphones from his locker in the locker room. According to the report, the locker had not been working correctly so he closed the door without latching it, before leaving for the game. When he returned to the locker room, he found the locker closed and latched. It was difficult to open, but when he did, the headphones were gone.

possession of drugs

Kent man arrested for possession of drugs: Police arrested a 52-year-old Kent man and charged him with aggravated possession of drugs after loss prevention at a South Avenue business observed him acting in a suspicious manner and wearing a backpack which seemed to be growing heavier the longer he was in the store. According to the report, when the man checked out after purchasing a few items, the loss prevention officer told the cashier to check his backpack. Inside the backpack they discovered store merchandise which the suspect offered to pay for. On his way out of the store, he set off an alarm because he had a stolen watch in his back pocket. He gave the watch to the cashier and said he did not want it anymore. Loss prevention stopped the suspect outside the store. The officer saw a knife holster on the suspect's hip and secured the weapon. He then found more store merchandise in the suspect's pants pocket. A search of his vehicle, which smelled of marijuana, turned up more stolen items as well as a zipper bag containing methamphetamine, a meth pipe, schedule II and schedule IV pills and a small amount of marijuana. The suspect's vehicle was impounded and he was transported to the Summit County Jail.
