Woman scammed out of money: A Tallmadge woman met with police May 3 regarding a scam. According to the report, the woman wired $950 to a suspect via a store moneygram, later discovering the entire transaction was based on a fabricated story.
Akron man steals from store two days in a row: Police issued a summons for theft to a 54-year-old Akron man May 3 after being dispatched to a South Avenue business for a report of a shoplifter. According to the report, the suspect was observed placing $88 worth of groceries in his jacket before passing all points of purchase without paying for the items. The suspect was apprehended outside the store without incident. Later that day, an officer was sent back to the store, as loss prevention had viewed video footage from May 2 showing the same suspect -- at 9:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. -- taking merchandise. Loss prevention told police it estimates the amount of merchandise taken that day at $160.
Kent man caught with liquor in pants: Police issued a summons for theft to a 20-year-old Kent man May 4 after officers were dispatched to a South Avenue business for the report of a shoplifter in custody. According to the report, the suspect was observed concealing a $31 bottle of liquor down his pants and leaving the store without paying. The suspect was found to have a warrant issued by the Kent Police Department for failing to appear on a charge of driving under suspension. The suspect was subsequently turned over to Kent police.
