Historical Society to host Metro Parks program
Sarah Vradenburg will present a program about her current book, "Steps in Time, 90 Years of Summit County Metro Parks," at the Tallmadge Historical Society meeting, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Old Town Hall.
Since its founding 90 years ago, Metro Parks serving Summit County has grown into one of the larger and more popular metropolitan park districts in the nation.
Vradenburg, formerly a writer for the Beacon Journal, spent more than four years researching the park district's history. "Steps in Time" is a people-oriented account of the land vital to the well-being of the area.
The subject is particularly timely with the Freedom Trail going through Tallmadge and the new Tallmadge Meadows, along with the Fall Hiking Spree. Vradenburg's book will be available for purchase.
Although Western Reserve Academy Archivist Thomas Vince will not speak Nov. 13, Tallmadge Historical Society President Carolyn Mackey said she hopes to have him present his program at a future date.
Family memberships are available for $10 for anyone wishing to join the oldest historical society in Ohio.
"The Society belongs to all residents of Tallmadge," said Mackey, "and all are most welcome to attend the programs."
Parking is available at Jubilee Donuts across from Town Hall. An auxiliary officer will be on duty to escort those attending the program across the Circle.
