St. Mark Lutheran

St. Mark Lutheran Church, 158 North Ave., offers the following activities:

• Jan. 13 -- Services at 8:15 and 10:30 a.m.; Sunday School, 9:15 a.m.; Sunday

School at 9:15 a.m. Formalizing a vision continues to be the focus of discussion. Refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall.

• Jan. 21 -- Knitting/Crocheting for Charity, 7 p.m.

• Jan. 22 -- Angels in the Kitchen, 7 p.m.

• Jan. 23 -- Douglas Gardner and family will host a memorial service at 11 a.m. honoring Charles Gardner. A luncheon will be served after the service; choir practice, 7:30 p.m.

• Jan. 26 -- St. Mark Southern Gospel Quartet practice, 9:30 a.m.

Tallmadge United Methodist

High School Fellowship also meets on Sunday's, but the schedule varies. Middle School Fellowship and Handbells meet during the week.

Warriors' Journey Home Ministry -- Listen, Speak, Heal is scheduled to meet Jan. 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Veterans and individuals of strong heart who would like to experience the healing circle for veterans are invited to attend. For future meeting times, visit the website warriorsjourneyhome.org.

Our Lady of Victory

The Year of Faith -- Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 73 North Ave.,continues to celebrate The Year of Faith by sharing some OLV history each week in its bulletin.

Families can jump start faith activities in the home, primarily to assist parents in being the first and best teachers of their children in the ways of faith which may in turn foster family togetherness, learning and conversations about faith, in a fun and interactive way.

Middle school teens -- Feb. 23, annual retreat hosted by St. Sebastian's on Mull Ave. in west Akron, $20. This is a middle school retreat lead by high school teams supervised by their youth ministers from six surrounding parishes. Call Ellen at 330-801-0463 for questions.

High school -- Feb. 22 and 23 - Middle School Retreat at St. Sebastian's.

Twenty-somethings Young Adult Group -- Jan. 24, Feb. 7 and Feb. 21, every other Thursday at OLV. For singles or married individuals in their 20s and 30s with or without children. Babysitting provided. Currently reading Matthew Kelly's Book: "Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic." All are welcome.

Adults -- Monday nights during Lent Feb. 18 through March 19 in Room 101 at 7 p.m.

Ten-week series "Rediscover Our Faith -- the Catholicism Series" will be presented in one hour videos. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in a Lenten journey.

Ash Wednesday -- Lent begins Feb. 13.

Lenten Bible Study -- Feb. 20, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Parish Center. The Gospel of Mark will be explored every Wednesday during Lent

Jan. 26 and 27 -- After each Mass donations will be accepted to provide funds for 400 billboards, Internet, phone aps, etc. to educate people in crisis pregnancies and puts them in touch with life saving alternatives.

Grace Baptist Church

Grace Baptist Church, 5915 Rhodes Road, Kent. Sunday services include worship at 9:30 a.m. with Sunday school for children, youth and young adults and an adult Bible fellowship class; worship at 11 a.m. with children's church and another adult Bible fellowship class option.

New Beginnings: When God Turns the Page will be presented by the Women's Ministry of Maranatha Bible Church Jan. 20 from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at Maranatha Bible Church,1424 Killian Road, Akron.

Sue Wells-Langford-Whitman and Kim Bates-Ahlstrom will speak.

Wells-Langford-Whitman has many titles: divorcee, widow, brain surgery survivor, newlywed, mom, step-mom, grandmother and teacher (she has been teaching at Tallmadge High School for 30 years).

Bates-Ahlstrom has been taking baby steps of faith on her journey as a wife and mother of three children, two at home with her and one in heaven.

The event is free and open to the public.
