OLV welcomes its new Pastoral Minister, Linda Herold. Herold will primarily focus on the adult members of the parish community, aiding them in their spiritual journey, coordinating ministry to senior members, the homebound, and those in nursing homes or who are hospitalized. She will also assist survivors in funerals and work with those who offer bereavement ministry. She will also facilitate with others the RCIA program. Additionally, Herold will work with OLV's Baptism Team to prepare parents, create opportunities and events for Adult Religious Education and work with OLV's young adults. Tallmadge Alliance Church will sponsor a free series of English as a Second Language classes on Monday nights starting Sept. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. Classes are for adults learning English as their second language. Beginner through advanced training is available. Register by calling the church or on any Monday night. Free childcare is provided for children up through age 12. The Western Reserve Jazz Ensemble's second annual Big Band Concert will take place Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. Admission is free. The concert will feature about an hour of '40s music, Big Band style. All are welcome. Snacks and beverages provided. Individuals will be available to help those who need assistance getting into the building. There are two handicapped entrances -- one in front and one in the back of the building.
Al Anon continues to meet at the church each Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
Dare to Share is a nutrition program sponsored by Tallmadge High School students, Rotary and Tallmadge United Methodist Church. Those who would like to contribute are asked to purchase small containers to go into backpacks: 100 percent juice boxes, beans and franks (pop-top), beef stew (pop-top), beef sticks, cereal bars, cereal bowls, fruit cups, pudding cups, jelly, shelf-stable milk, microwave popcorn, granola bars, oatmeal, peanut butter, pumpkin and sunflower seeds and tuna. Items made be brought to the Tallmadge UMC office.

Northwest Avenue Church of Christ, 737 Northwest Ave., will sponsor a free estate planning seminar Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. at the church.
The seminar will offer tips on how to avoid the cost and inconvenience of probate; provide a choice of care for minor children; realize substantial time and tax savings; direct the distribution of property as the property owner sees fit; and how to have a living trust prepared at no cost.

Tallmadge Nazarene Church is sponsoring a night out at the Akron Rubber Ducks game at 7:05 p.m. Aug. 30. A limited number of reserved tickets are available on a first come, first served basis for only $7. Tickets must be ordered and purchased in advance from the church by emailing the Church Administrator at TallmadgeNazarene@TallmadgeNazarene.org no later than noon Aug. 27. The first 1,000 children ages 12 and younger through the gates will receive a free back to school backpack. The game will also feature a fireworks show with music immediately following the game. Families are encouraged to enjoy a fun evening of baseball, fellowship, music and fireworks.

First Congregational Church is the host church for an Alzheimer's Support Group for caregivers and family members. Alzheimer's, dementia and delirium affect the entire family and this group support is intended to provide assistance in coping strategy and care. Unity Chapel of Light
Unity Chapel of Light, 503 Northwest Ave., invites the community to its Aug. 24 service, at 10 a.m., to hear guest musician Douglas Blue Feather. Blue Feather, an internationally-known musician specializing in contemporary Native American flute music, will also teach a flute workshop following the service. The class, of 25 students maximum, will be offered from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the church.
This is a hands-on class for those interested in learning the basics of playing a Native American flute. Participants do not need any experience; nor do they need a flute. Blue Feather will provide instruments to students. Class fee includes practice materials and a practice CD. For information on the fee, call the church.
There is no registration to attend the church service. Those wishing to attend the class should call the church office to register, as class size is limited.
