Tallmadge Home School Open Gym
program
Home school open gyms are available for all home school students in kindergarten through 12th grade Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The session will run through March 21. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may attend as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to work out on their own. Cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Each class begins with a half to 1 mile timed run.

Crafty Club for
Preschoolers
The TRC is hosting another day of its new arts and crafts program for children ages 3 through 6. Participants will work with Miss Kim and Miss Monica creating fun, age-appropriate crafts to take home. Class is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 9. Cost is $6 per class for residents and $8 per class for non-residents. Register by March 4.
Coffee Talk -- Diabetes
A coffee talk presentation will be offered Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. Charlotte Onderick, L.D., Consulate Healthcare regional director III, Nutrition Services Northern Ohio, will present "Diabetes ... How Should I Eat?" She will talk about the basics of diabetes and the different types and treatments. She will also discuss the nutritional approach to managing diabetes. Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free, but space is limited. Reserve a spot by calling the TRC at 330-634-2349 or stop by the front desk. Register by Feb. 20.
Scrapbooking Nights
Scrapbookers are invited to "crop till they drop" at the new monthly Scrapbooking Nights at Ritchie Memorial Shelter House. The next Scrapbooking Night is Feb. 22 from 6 p.m. to midnight. The night includes open space for laying out projects, a swap table for scrapbook items and a light dinner. Pre-sale tickets are recommended and are on sale now at the TRC or online. Cost is $10 presale for residents and $12 presale for non-residents. The cost for those who wish to pay at the door is $12 for residents and $14 for non-residents. Credit card required.
Progressive Dinner
The TRC is inviting residents to sample some of the fine eateries in Tallmadge with a Progressive Dinner Feb. 23. Participants will meet at Lions Hall at 5:30 p.m. to board the TRC bus and travel to local restaurants, each serving a different dinner course. The bus will make stops at Delanie's Neighborhood Grille for appetizers, La Mexicana for soup, Beef 'O' Brady's for salad and Firehouse Grille & Pub for the main course and then return to Lions Hall for dessert. Cost is $25 for Tallmadge residents and $30 for non-residents. Register by Feb. 18.
Little Leapers with
Renee
Little Leapers is a program that introduces children to the world of gymnastics. Friday afternoon classes and Saturday morning classes are available. The next session begins March 1. Classes are scheduled Fridays, March 1 through April 12 (no class March 29) or Saturdays, March 2 through April 13 (no class March 30). The Dynamic Duo class is designed for parents and children ages 18 months through 3 years and will take place Fridays from 3 to 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Parents of children ages 3 through 4 can sign up for the Puddle Jumpers class, offered Fridays, from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Pond Hoppers is designed for children ages 4 1/2 through 6 and will be offered Fridays from 2:15 to 3 p.m. or Saturdays from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. A new class for children ages 6 through 8, called Rising Stars, will be offered Fridays from 4:15 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Puddle Jumpers, Pond Hoppers and Rising Stars will introduce participants to beginning skills and progressions on floor, vault, beam and bars. Cost is $45 for Tallmadge residents and $50 for non-residents. Register at the TRC or online by Feb. 25.
Grandparent's Day
Grandchildren and grandparents are invited to a special day out together March 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the TRC. Grandparents and grandchildren will spend the day together enjoying crafts, games and ice cream. Participants will receive a keepsake photo to remember all the fun. Cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Register by March 4.
Family Sports Swap
The Tallmadge Recreation Department is hosting a sports swap in March. Residents may take gently used, clean sports equipment, shoes and spirit wear to the TRC March 4 through 12. When residents take in their used items, they will receive a voucher with the number of items donated. They can take that voucher back to the TRC March 14 between 5 and 8 p.m. to cash it in on "new-to-you" equipment brought in by others that may better suit their family's ever-changing sports needs.
