Tallmadge Home School Open Gym

program

Home school open gyms are available for all home school students in kindergarten through 12th grade Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. This session will end March 21. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may attend as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to work out on their own. Cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Each class begins with a half to 1 mile timed run.

Spring Break Camp

A Youth Day Camp for children ages 5 through 13 will be offered over spring break, March 25 through 29. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day with before and after camp activities available. This supervised day camp includes organized games, crafts, field trips, movies and use of the soccer field and basketball courts. Lunch will be provided. Cost for residents is $55 per child per week or $13 per child per day. Cost for non-residents is $75 per child per week or $20 per child per day. The final day to register is March 18 for camp and before and after camp activities.

Before and after camp activities are available as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 6:30 p.m. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Cost for both before and after camp activities is $11 per child per day for residents and $13 per child per day for non-residents. Cost for either before care or after care is $8 per child per day for residents and $10 per child per day for non-residents.

American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Class

An American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Class will be offered March 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This class, for ages 11 through 15, will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to safely and responsibly care for infants and children. The class covers topics such as leadership development, the business of babysitting, safety, how to help children behave, basic child care and basic first aid. Children must attend both days of class to become certified in babysitting. Cost is $65 for TRC members and $70 for non-members. Register by March 21.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Children are invited to take their Easter baskets to the TRC for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 23 at 10:30 a.m. Children will be divided up into the following age groups to hunt for candy-filled eggs and special prizes: 2 through 4, 5 through 6, 7 through 9 and 10 through 12. A special guest will be hopping by, so parents are encouraged to take their cameras.

Men's basketball league

A men's spring basketball league for ages 18 and older will be offered on Monday nights, beginning April 1. The league includes eight games plus playoffs for the top four teams. Cost is $475 per team and includes referee fees. Registration forms plus $100 non-refundable deposit are due by March 25 to reserve a spot in the league.

Tallmadge Spring/Summer Brochure out March 31

The TRC's Spring/Summer 2013 Program Brochure will be sent out in the Tallmadge Express March 31. The program brochure is packed with upcoming recreation programs from April through August, including new sports, events and programs for children and adults. Copies will also be available at the city building and the rec center.

Closed for Easter

The TRC will be closed Easter Sunday, March 31. It will reopen at 5 a.m. April 1.

Spring softball league registration on now

The TRC is offering four softball leagues this year: Sunday Coed, Monday Coed, Thursday Men's and Friday Coed. League play will begin the week of April 21. All leagues play at Lions and JC Howe Park. Most games will be doubleheaders (there may be a few single games) and play at 6:15, 7:15, 8:15 or 9:15 p.m. Season includes 12 games plus playoffs for the top four teams. Note: If there are an excessive number of rainouts, teams may be asked to play an additional day of the week for make-up games. Players must be 18 years or older to play. Cost is $305 per team plus umpire fees of $10 per team per game paid in cash on the field. Registration ends April 5 or when leagues are full. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due to hold a spot. Full payment is due before the first game. Make checks payable to "City of Tallmadge." Space is limited to six teams per league on a first-come basis when check is received.

Youth and adult sewing classes

The Tallmadge Recreation Department is offering new sewing classes for children and adults at the Tallmadge Community Center. Youth sewing class will teach children ages 9 through 13 the basics of using a sewing machine. The class will be Saturdays, April 6 through 20, from 10 a.m. to noon. The adult sewing class will teach participants the basics of quilting with a sewing machine and will be Mondays, April 8 through 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Sewing machines will be provided. Classes are limited to eight participants. Register at the TRC or online by April 1.
