Mother Goose time
First Friday of every month, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., no meeting May 3, for babies up to 24 months with a caregiver. Enjoy traditional rhymes and songs. Parents and caregivers may stay after for baby play group if they wish.
Family programs
For all ages
NatureConnect -- Winter Into Spring. Stop by the NatureConnect space in the children's area anytime the library is open and see what's going on. Test observation skills, learn something new and get creative with nature.
Story Walk -- May 9, anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. Pick up a tasty trail snack at the library before a family hike or bike ride on the Freedom Trail between East and Northeast avenues. Keep a sharp eye out for the sign posts and read a library book together while walking down the path.
Paws for Reading -- Every first and third Saturday of the month, 1 to 2 p.m. Look for therapy dogs, Caesar or Sophie, in the children's area and improve reading skills by reading a book to a furry friend. Take along a book from home or choose one from the library shelves.
Knit and Crochet Club -- Thursdays, April 4, May 9, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Those who love to knit or crochet and those who'd like to learn are invited to join club members as they create projects to be donated to charity, or work on an independent project. Basic supplies and instruction provided.
Toddler and Preschool Story times
Book Bugs Story Times, Tuesdays, through April 16, 10:30 a.m., for children ages 3 through 6 with a caregiver. Enjoy stories, songs, rhymes and arts and crafts with library friends.
Wonderful Wiggle Worms Story Times, Wednesdays, through April 17, 10 or 11 a.m., for children ages 2 through 3 with a caregiver. Jump on over to a shorter story time for active little ones. Enjoy songs, dancing, rhymes and stories. Story time is followed by a group playtime.
Spring Break Boredom Busters -- March 26, 2 to 4 p.m.
LEGOS, blocks, board games and pony bead crafts will be available for children to build, play and create together with their family, friends and neighbors.
Pete the Cat Party -- April 17, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. For children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Pete the Cat stories and songs will be featured. Children may then create their own Pete the Cat puppet so they can re-tell the stories.
Mother's Day Gift Program -- May 8, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Make some Mother's Day cards and a gift for Mom, a favorite aunt, or grandma.
Baby play group
Fridays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., no meeting May 3, for babies up to 24 months with a caregiver. Parents are invited to meet new friends by taking their little one to the library for a first group play experience. Join other moms, dads, grandmas and caregivers for a group playtime. The library will provide a meeting room and developmentally appropriate toys.
Teen programs
For children in sixth grade and older. Advance registration required.
Earth Day Craft -- April 22, 4 p.m. Celebrate Earth Day by designing a reusable lunch bag with fabric markers and embellishments. Help reduce waste and have fun.
Teens wanted -- Teen Summer Reading Volunteer Program meeting, May 31, 3 p.m. Must be ages 13 through 18 to volunteer. Love the library? Need service hours? Join this group of teen volunteers in helping with the library's summer reading program. Applications are available at the front desk. Make sure to come to this mandatory meeting prior to the start of the program.
Adult programs
Local Author Mark Price -- March 20, 2 p.m. Join author Mark Price for a lively discussion of his new book, "The Rest is History," with real-life stories ranging from quirky to poignant, from humorous to tragic and all points in between. Hear about the U.S. president who strolled through the countryside, the Akron stagehand who became a Hollywood icon, the beloved beagle that attended elementary school, the natural landmark that slid underground, the pop concert that made girls faint, the lost cemetery that turned into a city park and the world-famous gadget that caught on in Northeast Ohio.
Local Author Amanda Flower -- April 15, 7 p.m. Join Tallmadge author Amanda Flower for a discussion of her new book, "A plain Scandal." This is the sequel to her first Appleseed Creek Mystery book about computer specialist, Chloe Humphrey, solving a murder in Ohio's Amish country.
Painted Flower Vases -- April 22, 2 p.m. Make a painted flower vase for springtime. All materials will be provided. Advance registration required.
Make a Pendant -- May 22, 2 p.m. Join Julie McMullen and embellish a cabochon pendant. Materials will be provided. Attendees are invited to take their own picture or photo to place behind the clear stone. Advance registration required.
