Music on the Circle

The Tallmadge Recreation Department and the City of Tallmadge announce the return of Music on the Circle. This year's program will take place on Saturday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tallmadge Circle. This week's concert will begin a half hour later at 7:30 p.m. and feature The Sweet Beats, a Beatles cover band. The schedule for the rest of the summer is:

• July 27 -- The Sweet Beats (Beatles covers). Concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

• Aug. 3 -- The John Trapani Big Band (Big Band music)

• Aug. 10 -- NightSchool Band (Dance and rock and roll)

Concerts are free. Parking is available at the businesses around the Circle. Take a chair or blanket to sit on during the concert.

Crafty Club for

Preschoolers

Three times for the preschool arts and crafts program Crafty Club will be offered Aug. 10. Each class will take place between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Participants will work with Miss Kim and Miss Monica creating fun, age-appropriate crafts to take home. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. The last day to register is Aug. 5.

Fall softball league

registration going on now

Four softball leagues are being offered this fall: Sunday Coed, Monday Coed, Thursday Men's and a Friday Coed. League play will begin the week of Aug. 18. All leagues play at Lions and JC/Howe Road Park. Most games will be doubleheaders (there may be a few single games) and play at 6:15, 7:15, 8:15 or 9:15 p.m. Season includes 10 games plus playoffs for the top four teams. If there are an excessive number of rainouts, teams may be asked to play an additional day of the week for make up games. Players must be 18 years or older to play. Cost is $260 per team plus umpire fees of $10 per team per game paid in cash to the umpire on the field. Registration ends Aug. 4 or when leagues are full. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due to hold a spot. Full payment is due before the first game. Make checks payable to "City of Tallmadge." Space is limited to six teams per league on a first come basis when check is received.

Maca Pool

Maca Aquatic Center is open through Aug. 18, weather permitting. The pool will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Maca passes are on sale at the Tallmadge Recreation Center. Daily admission rates for Tallmadge residents are $5 for ages 3 through 12, $8 for ages 13 through 59 and $1 for ages 60 and older. Daily admission rates for non-residents are $8 for ages 3 through 12, $11 for ages 13 through 59 and $6 for ages 60 and older. Children ages 2 and younger are admitted free.

Summer Camp at

Lions Park

The Tallmadge Recreation Department is hosting Summer Day Camp for children ages 5 through 13 at Lions Park this summer. Camp is scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second session runs through Aug. 9. Children in this program will be separated by age to participate in a summer full of adult supervised, age-appropriate activities. Age groups are 5 through 6, 7 through 9 and 10 through 13. Activities include sports, crafts, hiking, swimming, games and field trips. Parents of children may register for a week at a time or for the entire five-week session. Cost for the five week session is $220 per child for Tallmadge residents and $260 per child for non-residents. Weekly rates are $55 per child for residents and $65 per child for non-residents. Before and after camp activities are also available.

Labor Day 5K

registration now open

The TRC will host its annual Labor Day 5K and 1 mile Family Fun Run Sept. 2. The races will start at the TRC. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the fun run begins at 9:05 a.m. The path runs through the neighborhoods adjacent to the TRC and ends with a loop around the indoor track. Race fee includes computerized chip timing, T-shirt, refreshments and prizes for the top finishers in all age groups (five-year increments). Visit www.ohiochallengeseries.com to register online.
