Youth volleyball leagues
Boys and girls in grades 2 through 6 can learn volleyball skills at this instructional volleyball Thursdays, Sept. 12 through Oct. 17. Grades 2 and 3 will play from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and grades 4 through 6 will play from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Jump Start Sports coaching staff will teach participants the fundamentals of volleyball such as serves, sets, slams, blocks, returns, positioning and strategy. This program is designed to be fun and educational for both novices and experienced players. Cost is $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents and includes a team T-shirt. Youth instructional soccer league
Children ages 7 through 11 are invited to attend this instructional soccer league Sundays, Sept. 15 through Oct. 20 from 3 to 4 p.m. Each class includes 30 minutes of instruction in all aspects of the game and 30 minutes of games. Each game will include an equal measure of healthy competition and instruction within the context of the game. All coaching will be done by Jump Start Sports coaching staff. Parents may assist in coaching. Indoor turf shoes, regular tennis shoes, gym or athletic shoes must be worn. No cleats of any type will be permitted. Cost is $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents and includes a team T-shirt and soccer medal. Register online or at the TRC by Sept. 9.
Beginning Soccer league
Youth Hummingbird Soccer League for ages 3 through 6 will be offered Sundays, Sept. 15 through Oct. 20. Children ages 3 and 4 will have class from 1 to 2 p.m. and children ages 5 and 6 will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Each class includes instruction in the basics of soccer, such as dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and positioning and low-key, non-competitive games. All coaching will be done by the TRC coaching staff. Parents may assist in coaching. Indoor turf shoes, regular tennis shoes, gym or athletic shoes must be worn. The Tallmadge Recreation Department invites boys and girls ages 8 through 12 to take their Nerf gun of choice and some extra ammo to this event scheduled for Sept. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening will include target practice and a team capture-the-flag challenge. Cost, which includes snacks and extra bullets, is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Register in person or online by Sept. 11.
Coffee Talk --
Seniors are invited to attend a free Coffee Talk about fall prevention presented by Healthways at 10 a.m. Sept. 12. Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free, but space is limited. Make reservations at the TRC by noon Sept. 11.
Adult volleyball open gyms
A volleyball court has been set aside for recreational pick-up games on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 12. These open gyms are designed for men and women, ages 16 and older, who want to get together and play volleyball in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Organized team practices are not permitted. Volleyball open gyms are free for TRC Blue & Gold members and $8 per person for non-members.
Dance and Cheer
The next session of Dance and Cheer is Saturdays, Sept. 21 through Nov. 9. Class for children ages 4 and 5 is 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. and class for children ages 6 through 10 is 10:20 to 11:05 a.m. Participants will learn the fundamentals of dance, cheerleading and fitness. The class session will end with a dance and cheer performance by each class at their regularly scheduled class time. Participants should take a water bottle and dress comfortably in workout or dance attire and athletic shoes. Cost for the eight week session is $50 for residents and $55 for non-residents. Little Leapers with
Little Leapers is a program designed to introduce children to the world of gymnastics on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings. Classes will be scheduled Fridays, Sept. 20 through Oct. 25 or Saturdays, Sept. 21 through Oct. 26. The Dynamic Duo class is for parents and children ages 18 months through 3 and will take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Parents of children ages 3 through 4 may sign up for the Puddle Jumpers class, offered Fridays from 2:15 to 3 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Pond Hoppers is for children ages 4 1/2 through 6 and will be scheduled from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Fridays and from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. Class for children ages 6 through 8, called Rising Stars, will run from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturdays. Puddle Jumpers, Pond Hoppers and Rising Stars will introduce participants to beginning skills and progressions on floor, vault, beam and bars. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Youth Future Fitness Club
Encourage children to make 2013 a healthier year with the Future Fitness Club. The Tallmadge Recreation Department is working with Akron Children's Hospital to offer a fitness program for children ages 8 through 13. Future Fitness Club will be scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 16 through Nov. 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. Children in the program will learn about healthy fitness and eating habits while participating in games and other non-competitive activities. The program is designed to teach children that fitness can be fun and to motivate them to make healthy lifestyle choices. The group weight management program provides participants the foundation they need to be active on a daily basis for the rest of their lives. The class is free for TRC members (child must be a member) and $30 per session or $5 daily drop in fee for all others. Registration is recommended by Sept. 11.
Crafty Club for
Crafty Club for preschoolers will be offered Sept. 14 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will work with Miss Kim and Miss Monica creating fun, age-appropriate crafts to take home. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. The last day to register is Sept. 9.
Home school open gyms for all home school students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be offered Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run Sept. 19 through Nov. 21. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a ½ to 1 mile timed run.

Indoor Yard Sale
A fall Indoor Yard Sale will be offered Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Those interested in clearing out their clutter and making a few extra dollars can register to be a seller at the event. Ten-foot by 10-foot booths cost $15 and a double booth costs $24. Sellers may take their own tables or rent the TRC's for $8 each. Sellers can begin setting up at 7 a.m. the day of the sale. The last day to register as a seller is Sept. 23. Looking for a few items to purchase? The event is free to browse.
Men's basketball leagues
A summer men's basketball league for ages 18 and older will be offered Monday nights, beginning Sept. 30. The league includes eight games plus playoffs for the top four teams. Cost is $475 per team and includes referee fees. Registration forms plus $100 non-refundable deposit are due by Sept. 23 to reserve a spot in the league. Payment is due in full prior to the first game.
