Firefighters seek volunteers to light candles on Circle
The Tallmadge Fire Department would like to invite residents to assist with the city's annual September 11 Memorial at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 on Tallmadge Circle.
Firefighters and others will place the nearly 3,000 memorial candles on the sidewalks of the Tallmadge Circle at that time. Each one of the nearly 3,000 candles represent a victim of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The candles will remain lit -- with help -- throughout the day and well into the following morning.
"The Tallmadge Fire Department appreciates all of the help our citizens have provided throughout the past years with the September 11 Memorial," said Tallmadge FireMedic Jeff Quick.
Volunteers are asked to take their own lighters to assist firefighters in lighting candles as they are unable to provide lighters for everyone.
Firefighters also ask for citizens' assistance in collecting the candles on Sept. 12 at 9 a.m.
