to host, picnic,
car show Sept. 15
Summit Villa Care Center, 330 Southwest Ave., is hosting a Summer Picnic and Car Show Sept. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The public is invited to attend to enjoy free food, drinks, music, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. The grills will be fired up and attendees are asked to take their own chairs.
Acceptance Agency changes hours
The city of Tallmadge Passport Acceptance Agency has changed its hours.
New passport applications are processed by appointment only Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the Clerk of Council office.
Call the Council office at 330-633-0856 to set up an appointment. The Clerk of Council office is located at 46 North Ave. in the City Building and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Western Whirlers offers lessons
Western Whirlers Square Dance Club is again sponsoring lessons at the Ritchie Shelter House, 109 West Ave.
Lessons are scheduled for Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. through April 2014.
Cost is $5 per person, with one free night offered Sept. 17.
Gene Hammond will serve as instructor.

Amethyst to play at
The Tallmadge band Amethyst will play at Viking Vineyards Winery, 268 Old Forge Road, Brimfield, Sept. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. Amethyst -- Al Lytle, Marti Jeffers, Marilyn Dirrig, Amy Walker and Frank Kuta -- perform old standards, blues, jazz, country and more.
Foundation to raise funds for scholarship on Acorn Express
The Tallmadge Foundation is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Tallmadge Foundation Scholarship Fund Oct. 26, aboard the Acorn Express through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Attendees will board the train at Northside Station at 27 Ridge St. in Akron and ride to Peninsula and back. During the trip, supporters can enjoy fantastic fall foliage and a Wine-Tasting Tour with food pairings. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. The train will depart at 2:35 p.m. and return at 5 p.m. Seats are limited, so book now. Seats are $50 per person. Sponsorship is also available. A Wine Flight at $250 and includes two seats; a Track at $500 which includes four seats; and finally a Train which includes $1,000. Contact Pam Loughry (330-633-8703) for more information.
