Home School Open Gym
Home school open gyms for all home school students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be offered Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run through Nov. 21. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a ½ to 1 mile timed run.

New! Progressive Dinner
Celebrate Sweetest Day with this dinner out Oct. 19. The Tallmadge Recreation Department bus will depart the Community Center at 5 p.m. and take participants to five restaurants for a five course meal. Here is the menu:

• Salad from LaMexicana
• Soup from Beef 'O' Brady's
• Main course from Firehouse Grille & Pub
• Dessert from Our Daily Bread
Cost is $25 for Tallmadge residents and $30 for non-residents. Register by Oct. 11.
Couch Potato to Runner in eight weeks
Train to run a 5K with the TRC's Couch to 5K program Saturday mornings, Oct. 26 through Dec. 28 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. This training session will help participants go from walking in the first week to jogging 3.1 miles (5K) by the last week. The class will end with paid admission to the New Year's Eve Run in Stow. The class is taught by a certified personal trainer. Cost is $75 for residents and $85 for non-residents and includes training, race fee and race T-shirt. Register in person or online by Oct. 21.
Indoor soccer leagues
Indoor soccer leagues for U-9 through adults will begin Nov. 1. Each league plays a 10-game schedule. Cost is $605 per team plus referee fees of $10 per game paid by each manager at each game. Registration closes Oct. 21. Deadline for high school teams is Oct. 25. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due at registration and full payment is due before the first game. New this year -- all youth coaches must have proof of concussion recognition training.
Youth and adult sewing classes
Sewing classes for children and adults are being offered. The youth sewing class will teach children ages 9 through 13 how to make doll clothes for 18-inch American Girl dolls. This class will be Saturdays, Oct. 12 through 26 from 10 a.m. to noon. The adult sewing class will teach participants how to make a quilted purse and will be Mondays, Oct. 14 through 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Sewing machines will be provided. Classes are limited to eight participants. Register at the TRC or online by Oct. 7.
New! 3-D Pumpkin Carving classes
Learn to create three dimensional pumpkin carvings Oct. 22 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. For ages 13 and older. Students will create a carving "masterpiece" to take home and display for Halloween. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. Students will take their own supplies. The instructor will call participants prior to the class with a supply list. The last day to register for this class is Oct. 15. Register at the TRC or online by searching activity number 332606.
Coffee Talk -- 'The Therapeutic Value of Humor'
Seniors are invited to a free Coffee Talk Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. about the "Therapeutic Value of Humor" presented by Harbor Light Hospice. Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free, but space is limited. Reservations will be taken until noon on Oct. 16 or when the program is full.
Crafty Club for
Preschoolers can show off their crafty side at Crafty Club Oct. 12. Class is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will work with Miss Kim and Miss Monica creating fun, age-appropriate crafts to take home. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. The last day to register is Oct. 7.
Grandparent's Day event
The Tallmadge Recreation Department is inviting grandchildren and grandparents to a special day out together Oct. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. Grandparents and grandchildren will spend the day together enjoying crafts, games and ice cream. Participants will receive a keepsake photo to remember all of the fun. Cost is $5 per person for residents and $7 per person for non-residents. Register by Sept. 30.
