Home School Open Gym
Home school open gyms for all home school students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be offered Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run through Nov. 21. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a ½ to 1 mile timed run.

Little Leapers with Renee
Little Leapers is a program tdesigned to introduce children to the world of gymnastics on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings at the TRC. Classes will be scheduled Fridays, Nov. 1 through Dec. 13 (no class Nov. 29) or Saturdays, Nov. 2 through Dec. 14 (no class Nov. 30). The Dynamic Duo class is for parents and children ages 18 months through 3 years and will take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Parents of children ages 3 through 4 can sign up for the Puddle Jumpers class, offered Fridays from 2:15 to 3 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Pond Hoppers is for children ages 4 1/2 through 6 and will be offered from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Fridays and from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. Class for children ages 6 through 8, called Rising Stars, will run from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturdays. Puddle Jumpers, Pond Hoppers and Rising Stars will introduce participants to beginning skills and progressions on floor, vault, beam and bars. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Junior All Star sports program
Introduce preschoolers to the wide world of sports with Junior All Stars from the TRC and Jump Start Sports. The next session will be Saturdays, Nov. 2 through Dec. 14 from 9 to 10 a.m. This class provides children ages 3 through 5 with a positive, age-appropriate introduction to a variety of sports. Participants will learn the fundamentals of sports like soccer, baseball, football and more to help them decide which sport they enjoy most. This class will help build children's confidence and social skills while burning excess energy through highly active games. It will also help children prepare for more formal sports programs and for a lifetime of fitness through sport. Cost is $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Halloween Street Dance
The Tallmadge Recreation Department is inviting families to scare up their best costumes and get ready for an evening of treats and fun at the annual Halloween Street Dance Oct. 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the TRC parking lot. This free event includes refreshments, a DJ dance party, and a costume contest with prizes. Beggar's Night will take place through local neighborhoods from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The TRC will close at 6 p.m. the day of the Street Dance to prepare for all the fun.
Couch Potato to Runner in eight weeks
Train to run a 5K with the TRC's Couch to 5K program Saturday mornings, Oct. 26 through Dec. 28 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. This training session will help participants go from walking in the first week to jogging 3.1 miles (5K) by the last week. The class will end with paid admission to the New Year's Eve Run in Stow. The class is taught by a certified personal trainer. Cost is $75 for residents and $85 for non-residents and includes training, race fee and race T-shirt. Register in person or online by Oct. 21.
Indoor soccer leagues
Indoor soccer leagues for U-9 through adults will begin Nov. 1. Each league plays a 10-game schedule. Cost is $605 per team plus referee fees of $10 per game paid by each manager at each game. Registration closes Oct. 21. Deadline for high school teams is Oct. 25. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due at registration and full payment is due before the first game. New this year -- all youth coaches must have proof of concussion recognition training.
New! 3-D Pumpkin Carving classes
Learn to create three dimensional pumpkin carvings Oct. 22 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. For ages 13 and older. Students will create a carving "masterpiece" to take home and display for Halloween. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. Students will take their own supplies. The instructor will call participants prior to the class with a supply list. The last day to register for this class is Oct. 15. Register at the TRC or online by searching activity number 332606.
Coffee Talk -- 'The Therapeutic Value
Seniors are invited to a free Coffee Talk Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. about the "Therapeutic Value of Humor" presented by Harbor Light Hospice. Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free, but space is limited. Reservations will be taken until noon on Oct. 16 or when the program is full.
