Winter Break Camp -- Week 2
The Tallmadge Recreation Center is hosting a Youth Day Camp for children ages 5 through 13 over Winter Break. Week 2 of camp will be offered Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 and 3. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day with before- and after-camp activities available. This supervised day camp includes organized games, crafts, field trips, movies and use of the soccer field and basketball courts. Lunch will be provided. Cost is $13 per child per day for residents and $20 per child per day for non-residents. The final day to register for the second week of camp and before and after camp activities is Dec. 26.
Before and after camp activities are available as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 6:30 p.m. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Cost for both before and after camp activities is $11 per child per day for residents and $13 per child per day for non-residents. Cost for either before care or after care is $8 per child per day for residents and $10 per child per day for non-residents.
The TRC will be open special hours during the holiday season.

Men's basketball leagues
A men's basketball league for ages 18 and older will be offered Monday nights, beginning Jan. 6. The league includes eight games plus playoffs for the top four teams. Cost is $475 per team and includes referee fees. Registration forms plus $100 non-refundable deposit are due by Dec. 30 to reserve a spot in the league. Payment is due in full prior to the first game.
Fitness on the First
The TRC will be open on New Year's Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to help members get a jump start on their fitness resolutions. All members are encouraged to take a friend, ages 18 and older, to try the facility free of charge. Guests must take a photo ID and sign a participation waiver upon entrance.
Girls ages 3 through 5 are invited to don their favorite princess costumes for the Princess Parade Jan. 10 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the TRC. The day includes princess-themed games, crafts and stories and ends with a regal parade around the track. Cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Register in person or online by Jan. 3.
Boys ages 3 through 5 are invited to dress as their favorite superhero for Superhero Day Jan. 17, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the TRC. The day includes superhero-themed games, crafts and stories and ends with a crime fighting parade around the track. Cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Register in person or online by Jan. 10.
Dance & Cheer
A recreational dance and cheer class for children ages 4 through 10 will be offered Jan. 11 through March 1 at the TRC. Class for children ages 4 and 5 is 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. and class for children ages 6 through 10 is 10:20 to 11:05 a.m. Participants will learn the fundamentals of dance, cheerleading and fitness. The class session will end with a dance and cheer performance by each class at their regularly scheduled class time. Participants should take a water bottle and dress comfortably in workout or dance attire and athletic shoes. Cost for the eight-week session is $50 for residents and $55 for non-residents. Dance classes with Brittney
New sessions of two youth dance classes -- Ballet Kids and Hip Hop Teens with Brittney Benson will be offered on Sundays, Jan. 12 through March 2 at the TRC. All classes will have recitals on the last day of class. Ballet Kids teaches children ballet fundamentals. Class for children ages 4 through 6 will be noon to 12:30 p.m. and class for children ages 5 through 6 will be from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. Cost for Ballet Kids is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Hip Hop Teens for ages 7 through 13 teaches age-appropriate contemporary dances and will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Cost for Hip Hop Teens is $50 for residents and $55 for non-residents. Crafty Club for
Let preschoolers show off their crafty side at the TRC's Crafty Club Jan. 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will work with Miss Kim and Miss Monica creating fun, age-appropriate crafts to take home. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. The last day to register is Jan. 6.
Little Leapers with Renee
Little Leapers is a program designed to introduce children to the world of gymnastics and will be offered Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings at the TRC. Friday classes will run Jan. 10 through Feb. 14 and Saturday classes will run Jan. 11 through Feb. 15. The Dynamic Duo class is for parents and children ages 18 months through 3 and will take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Children ages 3 through 4 can sign up for the Puddle Jumpers class, offered Fridays from 2:15 to 3 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Pond Hoppers is for children ages 4 and a half through 6 and will be offered from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Fridays and 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. Class for children ages 6 through 8, called Rising Stars, will be offered from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturdays. Puddle Jumpers, Pond Hoppers and Rising Stars will introduce participants to beginning skills and progressions on floor, vault, beam and bars. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Potato to Runner in Eight Weeks
Train to run a 5K with TRC's Couch to 5K program on Saturday mornings, Jan. 11 to March 9 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. This training session will help participants go from walking in the first week to jogging 3.1 miles (5K) by the last week. The class will end with paid admission to the Shamrock Run at Woodridge High School. The class is taught by a certified personal trainer. Cost is $75 for residents and $85 for non-residents and includes training, race fee and race T-shirt. Register in person or online by Jan. 6.
Floral Design Class
Learn to create seasonal flower arrangements at the TRC Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. In the floral design class, participants will create a seasonal arrangement using fresh flowers that they can take home and display. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents plus a $15 supply fee paid in cash to the instructor at the first class. All materials will be provided. The last day to register is Jan. 8. Home school open gym
The TRC will host home school open gyms for all home school students in kindergarten through 12th grade Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run Jan. 9 through March 20 at the TRC. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a half to 1 mile timed run.
