Lions to host
The Tallmadge Lions Club will host an "all you care to eat" spaghetti dinner Jan. 11 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Lions Park Hall, 245 Northeast Ave.
This all you can eat event is a primary fundraiser of the Tallmadge Lions Club, whose members give back to the community through a variety of philanthropic services, including scholarships to local students, children's vision screening, pilot dogs, eyeglasses and eye surgeries. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children. Reservations are not required. Take out orders will be available in person or by calling ahead at 330-633-5739.
Greater Akron to meet
The Gardeners of Greater Akron will host its first membership meeting of the new year Jan. 20 at St. George Fellowship Centre, 3204 Ridgewood Road, Copley, starting with social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.
The evening's program will be presented by Tom Dayton of Dayton Nurseries in Norton. Members and guests are urged to attend this first meeting of the new year and to meet the garden club officers for 2014. They are: Arthur Britton, president; Clark Bordner, first vice president; Pat Pickard, second vice president; Sue Godard, secretary; and Leroy Hart, treasurer and historian.

Celebrity Chefs Gala
Tickets on sale now for Lions Club Celebrity Chefs Gala Feb. 1
The Tallmadge Lions Club will host its second Celebrity Chefs Gala from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 1, at Roses Run Country Club, 2636 N. River Road, Stow.
Local celebrities will serve attendees from a buffet line that will consist of foods and desserts that are their favorites or specialties.
In addition to dinner, a silent auction and wine raffle will round out what organizers call an evening of informal elegance. This event will provide an opportunity for guests to sample the celebrity chefs' creations, in addition to supporting Lions Club projects, including children's vision screening, academic scholarships, pilot dogs, eyeglasses, eye surgeries and immunizations, both for local neighbors and those around the world.
Tickets are $30 per person and on sale now through the end of December. Tickets may be purchased from any Tallmadge Lions Club member or by calling 330-633-0084.
Last year's inaugural event was deemed a success raising in excess of $3,000 to contribute to Lions Club projects.
