Floral Design Class

Learn to create seasonal flower arrangements at the Tallmadge Recreation Center Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. In the floral design class, participants will create a seasonal arrangement using fresh flowers that they can take home and display. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents plus a $15 supply fee paid in cash to the instructor at the first class. All materials will be provided. The last day to register is Jan. 8. Junior All-Star sports program

Introduce preschoolers to the wide world of sports with Junior All Stars from the TRC and Jump Start Sports. The next session is scheduled for Saturdays, Jan. 18 through Feb. 22 from 9 to 10 a.m. The class provides children ages 3 through 5 with a positive, age-appropriate introduction to a variety of sports. Participants will learn the fundamentals of sports like soccer, baseball, football and more to help them decide which sport they enjoy most. This class will help build children's confidence and social skills while burning excess energy through highly active games. It will help children prepare for more formal sports programs and for a lifetime of fitness through sport. Cost is $65 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Register in person or online by Jan. 13.

Acrylic painting class

Individuals 13 and older are invited to express their artistic side at an acrylic painting class offered Tuesdays, Jan. 21 through Feb. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. It will teach students the basics of acrylic painting to create their own masterpieces to take home and display. Cost is $20 for residents and $25 for non-residents plus supplies. The instructor will contact students the week before the class with a supply list. Scrapbooking Nights

Scrapbookers are invited to "crop till they drop" at monthly Scrapbooking Nights offered at Ritchie Memorial Shelter House, 109 W. Main St. The next is scheduled for is Jan. 24 from 6 p.m. to midnight. The night includes open space for laying out projects, a swap table for unwanted scrapbooking items and a light dinner. Cost is $10 for residents and $12 for non-residents. Register by Jan. 23.

Rockin' at the Rec Middle School Dance Party

Tallmadge Middle School students are invited to the TRC Jan. 31 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. for a rockin' dance party. A DJ will keep the fun jumping all night long with games, contests, prizes and dancing. There will also be inflatable fun, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, pizza and refreshments. Tickets will be sold at the TMS during lunch hours the week of Jan. 27. Tickets are $7 pre-sale or $8 at the door.

Snowball Softball Tournament

A softball tournament in the snow will be offered Feb. 8 at Lions Park Ball field. This adult, coed tournament will be double elimination and games will be played in one-pitch style and will be five innings long. Game times will be announced after the registration deadline. Each team is guaranteed two games. Tournament winners will receive T-shirts. Cost is $99 per team plus umpire fees of $10 per game per team paid in cash to the umpire on the field. Spots are limited, so register by Jan. 31.

Crafty Club for


Let preschoolers show off their crafty side at Crafty Club, Feb. 8 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Participants will work with Miss Kim and Miss Monica creating fun, age-appropriate crafts to take home. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for non-residents. The last day to register is Feb. 3.

Youth, adult sewing classes

Sewing classes for children and adults are being offered at the TRC. Both classes will feature making a rag quilt. Youth sewing class for children ages 9 through 13 will be Feb. 8 through 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. The adult sewing class will be Feb. 10 through 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Sewing machines will be provided. Classes are limited to eight participants. Register at the TRC or online by Feb. 3.

Home school open gym

The TRC will host home school open gyms for all home school students in kindergarten through 12th grade Thursdays from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run through March 20 at the TRC. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a half to 1 mile timed run.
