New sessions of two youth dance classes -- Ballet Kids and Hip Hop Teens with Brittney Benson will be offered Sundays, March 16 through May 4. All classes will have recitals on the last day of class. Ballet Kids teaches children ballet fundamentals. Class for children ages 4 through 6 are scheduled from noon to 12:30 p.m. and class for children ages 5 through 6 are scheduled from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. Cost for Ballet Kids is $45 for residents and $50 for nonresidents. Hip Hop Teens for ages 7 through 13 teaches age-appropriate contemporary dances and will be scheduled from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Cost for Hip Hop Teens is $50 for residents and $55 for nonresidents.
Dance & Cheer
A recreational dance and cheer class for children ages 4 through 10 will be offered Saturdays, March 15 through May 3. Class for children ages 4 and 5 will run from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. and class for children ages 6 through 10 will run from 10:20 to 11:05 a.m. Participants will learn the fundamentals of dance, cheerleading and fitness. The class session will end with a dance and cheer performance by each class at their regularly scheduled class time. Participants should take a water bottle and dress comfortably in workout or dance attire and athletic shoes. Cost for the eight-week session is $50 for residents and $55 for nonresidents.
The Tallmadge Recreation Department will host Junior Olympic Youth Volleyball Tournaments Feb. 23. While the basketball courts will be unavailable during the tournament, spectators are welcome to watch some of the area's best young players compete for the tournament title free of charge.
The Tallmadge Recreation Department invites all scrapbookers to "crop till they drop" at the monthly Scrapbooking Night at Ritchie Memorial Shelter House. The next Scrapbooking Night is set for Feb. 28 from 6 p.m. to midnight. The night includes open space for laying out projects, a swap table for unwanted scrapbook items and a light dinner. Cost is $10 for residents and $12 for nonresidents. Register by Feb. 27.
Home school open gym
The TRC will host home school open gyms for all home school students from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run through March 20 at the TRC. Children in kindergarten through 12th grade will sample a variety of sports, both individual and team-based, in a supervised, safe and fun environment. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a half to 1 mile timed run.

Employee of the Month
The Tallmadge Recreation Center announces Tevin Johnson is its February employee of the month. Tevin has worked at the TRC since February 2013 as a fitness attendant and facility attendant. Tevin was nominated by coworkers and members for going above and beyond his job duties.
All recreation center employees are eligible to earn "stars" through member and coworker compliments throughout the month. At the end of the month, the four employees who earn the most stars are put on a ballot. Members are asked to tell someone at the front desk if they see a TRC employee working hard or going above and beyond.
