Dance & Cheer
A recreational dance and cheer class for children ages 4 through 10 will be offered Saturdays, March 15 through May 3. Class for children ages 4 and 5 will run from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. and class for children ages 6 through 10 will run from 10:20 to 11:05 a.m. Participants will learn the fundamentals of dance, cheerleading and fitness. The class session will end with a dance and cheer performance by each class at their regularly scheduled class time. Participants should take a water bottle and dress comfortably in workout or dance attire and athletic shoes. Cost for the eight-week session is $50 for residents and $55 for nonresidents.
The Tallmadge Recreation Department will host a Junior Olympic Youth Volleyball Tournament March 9. The tournament will use all four basketball courts all day. While the basketball courts will be unavailable during the tournament, spectators are welcome to watch some of the area's best young players compete for the tournament title free of charge.
New sessions of two youth dance classes -- Ballet Kids and Hip Hop Teens with Brittney Benson, will be offered Sundays, March 16 through May 11 (no class April 20). All classes will feature recitals on the last day of class. Ballet Kids teaches children ballet fundamentals. Class for children ages 4 through 6 are scheduled from noon to 12:30 p.m. and class for children ages 5 through 6 are scheduled from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. Cost for Ballet Kids is $45 for residents and $50 for nonresidents. Hip Hop Teens for ages 7 through 13 teaches age-appropriate contemporary dances and will be scheduled from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Cost for Hip Hop Teens is $50 for residents and $55 for nonresidents.
American Red Cross Babysitter's
Become a certified babysitter at the American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Class March 25 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This class, for ages 11 through 15, will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to safely and responsibly care for infants and children. The class covers topics like leadership development, the business of babysitting, safety, how to help children behave, basic child care and basic first aid. Children must attend both days of class to become certified in babysitting. Cost is $65 for members and $70 for nonmembers. Register by March 18.
Spring Break Camp
The TRC is hosting a Youth Day Camp for children ages 5 through 13 over Spring Break, March 24 through 28. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day with before and after camp activities available. This supervised day camp includes organized games, crafts, field trips, movies and use of the soccer field and basketball courts. Lunch will be provided. Cost for residents is $55 per child per week or $13 per child per day. Cost for non-residents is $75 per child per week or $20 per child per day. The final day to register is March 17 for camp and before and after camp activities.
Before and after camp activities are available as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 6:30 p.m. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Cost for both before and after camp activities is $11 per child per day for residents and $13 per child per day for nonresidents. Cost for either before care or after care is $8 per child per day for residents and $10 per child per day for nonresidents.
Home school open gym
The TRC will host home school open gyms for all home school students from 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. The next session will run through March 20 at the TRC. Children in kindergarten through 12th grade will sample a variety of sports, both individual and team-based, in a supervised, safe and fun environment. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a half to 1 mile timed run.
