Gardeners of Greater Akron Club to host annual geranium, plant sale set May 9, 10
The Gardeners of Greater Akron Club will host its annual geranium and plant sale set May 9 and 10 in the front of Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market St., Fairlawn.
The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The sale, which the garden club has sponsored for many years just before Mother's Day, will again feature a large color variety of geraniums. There are 18 plants per flat and the sale price is $22 per flat. Other bedding plants will also be available for sale such as petunias, dwarf marigolds, wax begonias, certain vegetable plants and many large hanging baskets. Parking is in front of the church where club members will be available to answer questions and assist in loading.
The Men's Garden Club of Akron was founded in 1937 and remains one of the oldest garden clubs in America. In March 2010, it changed its name to Gardeners of Greater Akron since many members come from surrounding areas of Akron. Membership is open to men, women and youth and new members are always welcome. The club meets monthly for a dinner and program at St. George Fellowship Centre, 3204 Ridgewood Road, Akron, at 5:30 p.m. Projects include home landscaping for Habitat for Humanity, college scholarships, annual beautification awards for homes and businesses, plant and seed exchanges with members and youth gardening education and contests.
