Summer swim lessons at Maca Aquatic Center
The Tallmadge Recreation Department will be offering summer swim lessons at Maca Aquatic Center for all ages this summer. Lessons start the week of June 9. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays or Saturdays. Morning and evening classes are available. Early online registration for residents who are Maca pass holders is going on now. All residents and all Maca pass holders may begin registering online May 12 at 1 p.m. All others may begin online registration on May 19 at 1 p.m. In person registration will begin at the Tallmadge Recreation Center May 27. Cost is $50 per child for Maca pass holders and $60 per child for all others.
Summer college passes at TRC
The TRC is offering a summer deal for college students home from school for the summer. College passes will be on sale May 5 through Aug. 31 and will be valid for 117 days from purchase. Cost for a blue membership is $85 for residents and $100 for nonresidents and cost for a gold membership is $110 for residents and $125 for nonresidents. A valid college ID is required at time of purchase.
Tallmadge Home School Open Gym Program
TRC will be hosting home school open gyms for all home school students in grades K-12 on Thursdays, 12:45-2:30 pm, April 3-May 22, 2014. Students will learn a variety of sports skills, key health and fitness concepts and how to establish personal fitness goals. No pre-registration is necessary and students may come as often as they choose. Parents may choose to pay and play or pay to workout on their own. Cost is $4 for residents and $6 for non-residents. Each class begins with a ½ to 1 mile timed run.
Youth golf league Improved for 2014
TRD has made changes and improvements to its summer youth golf program which will be scheduled Fridays, June 13 through Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. The program now includes two clinics as well as six weeks of league play. The first clinic will be at Edwin Shaw Challenge Golf Course and the remainder of the program will be at Sunny Hill Golf Course. Cost is $150 for residents and $160 for nonresidents. Register by June 4.
TRD will offer tennis lessons to children ages 5 through 13 this summer at the tennis courts next to the TRC. Lessons will be Mondays and Wednesdays, June 2 through 25. Children ages 5 through 7 will play from 9:15 to 10 a.m., ages 8 through 10 will play from 10 to 11 a.m. and ages 11 through 13 will play from 11 a.m. to noon. The program includes age-appropriate tennis instruction from instructors with the LaTuchie Tennis Center. Cost for ages 5 through 7 is $55 for residents and $65 for nonresidents. Cost for ages 8 through 13 is $70 for residents and $80 non-residents. Register by May 28.
Soccer field closed for replacement
The soccer field at TRC is closed until May 14 while it undergoes turf replacement. During the construction, a portion of the track will be closed to allow for equipment to enter and exit the building and a shortened track will be used instead. The old field turf is original to the building and has seen 10 years' worth of action.
Maca Aquatic Center passes are on sale now at the TRC at pre-season rates. Start thinking about summer fun now and save up to $15 off the regular season rates. Preseason rates are good through May 30. Contact the TRC for prices. Maca Pool opens May 31 at 11 a.m. Maca will be open daily, weather permitting, through Aug. 17. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Summer Camp at Lions Park
TRD is hosting Summer Day Camp for children ages 5 through 13 at Lions Park. Camp will be offered Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first session is scheduled June 2 through July 3 and the second session will be July 7 through Aug. 8. Children in this program will be separated by age to participate in a summer full of adult supervised, age-appropriate activities. Age groups are 5 through 6, 7 through 9 and 10 through 13. Activities include sports, crafts, hiking, swimming, games and field trips. Children can be registered for a week at a time or for the entire five-week session. Cost for each five-week session is $220 per child for residents and $260 per child for nonresidents. Weekly rates are $55 per child for residents and $65 per child for nonresidents. Before and after camp activities are also available for an additional fee.
Home School Open Gym program

Children are encouraged to make 2014 a healthier year with the Future Fitness Club. The program is designed for children ages 8 through 13 and will take place Mondays and Wednesdays, through June 4 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the TRC. Children will learn about healthy fitness and eating habits while participating in games and other non-competitive activities. The program is designed to teach children that fitness can be fun and to motivate them to make healthy lifestyle choices. The class is free for TRC members (child must be member) and $5 daily drop in fee for nonmembers.
