Go from Couch

Potato to Runner in eight weeks

Train to run a 5K with TRC's Couch to 5K program Saturday mornings, June 28 through Aug. 30 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. This training session will help participants go from walking in the first week to jogging 3.1 miles (5K) by the last week. The class will end with paid admission to the Tallmadge Recreation Department's Labor Day 5K. This class is taught by a certified personal trainer. Cost is $75 for residents and $85 for nonresidents and includes training, race fee and race T-shirt. Register in person or online by June 23.

Girl Scout Bingo Night

TRD is inviting all area Girl Scouts to the Community Center June 18 for Bingo Night. The night starts at 6 p.m. and includes bingo, refreshments and prizes. Cost is $5 for resident Scouts and $7 for nonresident Scouts.

Youth Hummingbird beginning soccer league

TRC will host a youth hummingbirds soccer league for children ages 3 through 6 Sundays, June 22 through Aug. 3 (no class July 6). Children ages 3 and 4 will have class from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and ages 5 and 6 will meet from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Each class includes instruction in the basics of soccer like dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and positioning and low-key, non-competitive games. All coaching will be done by the TRC coaching staff. Parents may assist in coaching. Indoor turf shoes, regular tennis shoes, gym or athletic shoes must be worn. No cleats of any type will be permitted. Cost is $65 for residents and $75 for nonresidents and includes a team T-shirt and soccer medal. Register by June 16.

Maca Pool now open

Maca Pool will be open through Aug. 17, weather permitting. The pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Maca passes are on sale at the TRC. Daily admission rates for residents are $5 for ages 3 through 12, $8 for ages 13 through 59 and $1 for 60 and older. Daily admission rates for non-residents are $8 for ages 3 through 12, $11 for ages 13 through 59 and $6 for ages 60 and older. Children ages 2 and younger are admitted free of charge.

Touch a Truck

TRC is inviting families to get up close and personal with the big trucks one can usually only see from afar at Touch a Truck June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. Tallmadge City vehicles, mail trucks, army vehicles and other cool surprises will be featured. Admission is free.

Little Leapers with Renee

Little Leapers at TRC is a program that will introduce children to the world of gymnastics. Classes are scheduled Fridays, June 13 through July 25 (no class July 4). The Dynamic Duo class is for parents and children ages 18 months through 3 years and will take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Children ages 3 through 4 may sign up for the Puddle Jumpers class, offered from 2:15 to 3 p.m. Pond Hoppers is for children ages 4 1/2 through 6 and will run from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Class for children ages 6 through 8, called Rising Stars, will run from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Puddle Jumpers, Pond Hoppers and Rising Stars will introduce participants to beginning skills and progressions on floor, vault, beam and bars. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for nonresidents. Register by June 9.

Ninety-nine Days for $99 summer special

It's back again this year -- 99 days at TRC for $99. This promotional pass is on sale June 1 through 30 and is available to anyone without a current TRC membership. For $1 a day, purchasers will receive a Gold level membership that includes classes (except cycling) and child care during their workout. Membership is good for 99 days from the date of purchase.

Crafty Club for


Preschooler can show off their crafty side at Crafty Club June 14 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at TRC. Participants will work with Miss Kim and Miss Monica creating fun, age-appropriate crafts to take home. Cost is $6 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. The last day to register is June 9.

Summer Camp

at Lions Park

TRD is hosting Summer Day Camp for children ages 5 through 13 at Lions Park. Camp will be offered Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first session is scheduled June 2 through July 3 and the second session will be July 7 through Aug. 8. Children in this program will be separated by age to participate in a summer full of adult supervised, age-appropriate activities. Age groups are 5 through 6, 7 through 9 and 10 through 13. Activities include sports, crafts, hiking, swimming, games and field trips. Children can be registered for a week at a time or for the entire five-week session. Cost for each five-week session is $220 per child for residents and $260 per child for nonresidents. Weekly rates are $55 per child for residents and $65 per child for nonresidents. Before and after camp activities are also available for an additional fee.

Youth Future Fitness Club

Children are encouraged to make 2014 a healthier year with the Future Fitness Club. The program is designed for children ages 8 through 13 and will take place Mondays and Wednesdays, through June 4 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the TRC. Children will learn about healthy fitness and eating habits while participating in games and other non-competitive activities. The program is designed to teach children that fitness can be fun and to motivate them to make healthy lifestyle choices. The class is free for TRC members (child must be member) and $5 daily drop in fee for nonmembers.

Summer college

Passes at TRC

The TRC is offering a summer deal for college students home from school for the summer. College passes will be on sale through Aug. 31 and will be valid for 117 days from purchase. Cost for a blue membership is $85 for residents and $100 for nonresidents and cost for a gold membership is $110 for residents and $125 for nonresidents. A valid college ID is required at time of purchase.
