Go from Couch

Potato to Runner in eight weeks

Train to run a 5K with TRC's Couch to 5K program Saturday mornings, June 28 through Aug. 30 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. This training session will help participants go from walking in the first week to jogging 3.1 miles (5K) by the last week. The class will end with paid admission to the Tallmadge Recreation Department's Labor Day 5K. This class is taught by a certified personal trainer. Cost is $75 for residents and $85 for nonresidents and includes training, race fee and race T-shirt. Register in person or online by June 23.

Youth tennis lessons

TRD will offer tennis lessons for children ages 5 through 13 this summer at the tennis courts next to the TRC. Lessons will be scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays, July 7 through 10. Children ages 5 through 7 will play from 9:15 to 10 a.m., ages 8 through 10 will play from 10 to 11 a.m. and ages 11 through 13 will play from 11 a.m. to noon. The program includes age-appropriate tennis instruction from instructors with the LaTuchie Tennis Center. Cost for ages 5 through 7 is $55 for residents and $65 for nonresidents. Cost for ages 8 through 13 is $70 for residents and $80 nonresidents. Register by July 2.

Indoor men's flag football leagues

Play adult men's flag football at TRC's indoor soccer field. The league is open to men's teams ages 18 and consists of eight games plus playoffs for the top four teams. League plays Sundays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning July 13. Cost is $460 per team plus referee fees of $10 per team paid to the referee at each game. Registration closes July 7 or when the league is full. A $100 non-refundable deposit is due at registration and full payment is due one week before the first game.

Men's basketball leagues

TRC is offering a men's basketball league for ages 18 and older Monday nights, beginning July 7. The league includes eight games plus playoffs for the top four teams. Cost is $475 per team and includes referee fees. Registration forms plus $100 non-refundable deposit are due by June 30 to reserve a spot in the league. Payment is due in full prior to the first game.

Summer swim

lessons -- second session

The TRD will offer a second session of summer swim lessons at Maca Aquatic Center for all ages this summer. Lessons start the week of July 15. Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Morning and evening classes are available. Early online registration for residents who are Maca pass holders begins July 8 at 1 p.m. All residents and all Maca pass holders can begin registering online July 9 at 1 p.m. All others may begin online registration July 10 at 1 p.m. In person registration will begin at TRC July 11. Cost is $50 per child for Maca pass holders and $60 per child for all others. A complete schedule can be found at www.tallmadgerecreation.org.

Closed for

Independence Day

TRC will be closed for Independence Day, July 4 and will reopen July 5 at 7 a.m. Maca Pool will be open July 4.

Music on the Circle

The TRD and the city announce the return of Music on the Circle. This year's program will take place Saturday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tallmadge Circle. The concert series kicks off July 12 with the Chardon Polka Band. The schedule for the rest of the summer is:

• July 19 -- The John Trapani Big Band (Big Band)

• July 26 -- The Diamond Project (Neil Diamond cover)

• Aug. 2 -- The Sweet Beats (Beatles cover)

• Aug. 9 --Instant Replay (New and old favorites with a twist)

Concerts are free. Parking is available at the businesses around the Circle. Take a chair or blanket to sit on during the concert.

Summer Camp at

Lions Park

TRD is hosting Summer Day Camp for children ages 5 through 13 at Lions Park. Camp will be offered Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first session is scheduled through July 3 and the second session will be July 7 through Aug. 8. Children in this program will be separated by age to participate in a summer full of adult supervised, age-appropriate activities. Age groups are 5 through 6, 7 through 9 and 10 through 13. Activities include sports, crafts, hiking, swimming, games and field trips. Children can be registered for a week at a time or for the entire five-week session. Cost for each five-week session is $220 per child for residents and $260 per child for nonresidents. Weekly rates are $55 per child for residents and $65 per child for nonresidents. Before and after camp activities are also available for an additional fee.

Spotlight for June

TRC is shining the spotlight on a different employee each month. This month's employee spotlight is Ryan Hagerty. Ryan works at the front desk and has been with the Rec for a year and a half. In his spare time, Ryan likes play soccer and video games. He is a libertarian. His favorite color is red and he has a dog named Nellie.
