annual Flea Market set for Aug. 22
The Tallmadge Lions Club will host its annual flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at Tallmadge Lions Hall, 245 Northeast Ave.
Crafters and vendors are invited to purchase tables at $15 apiece and take their wares to sell. Tables may be reserved by calling Georgetta at 330-630-2626.
Those with items to donate may drop them off at Lions Hall Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no sales on Thursday. Food and beverages will be sold all day Friday for the vendors and buyers.
All proceeds from the event will go to Lions causes, including the Greater Akron Lions Eyecare Program, Lions Eye Clinic at St. Vincent's, Ohio Eye Research Foundation, Sight Hearing and Pilot Dogs, Tallmadge Good Neighbors, Dare to Share, Tallmadge High School Scholarships and community projects.
Grotto to host
ice cream social
Yusef-Khan Grotto will host an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social Aug. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Grotto Park, 619 Northwest Ave. All are welcome to attend.
Yusef-Khan Grotto will distribute toothbrushes and brochures, which detail its program of Dental Care for Children with Special Needs at the Walmart Supercenter at 250 Tallmadge Road in Kent from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17.
The Grottoes of North America Humanitarian Foundation is a 62-year-old 501 (c) 3 organization that supports the Dental Care for Children with Special Needs Program. To be eligible for assistance from the Foundation, a child must be under the age of 18 and diagnosed with one of the following conditions: cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, mental retardation, or be an organ transplant recipient. The Foundation will serve as secondary carrier if a family has dental insurance or as the primary carrier if no insurance is in place.

McIntyre can assist local families with the necessary paperwork to apply for funding. Greater Akron to host membership meeting,
The Gardeners of Greater Akron will host its membership meeting and Horticulture Show Aug. 18 at St. George Fellowship Centre, 3204 Ridgewood Road, Copley, starting with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.
Members and friends will present specimen entries of vegetables, fruits, flowers and plants for display and judging by certified gardening judges from the Men's Garden Club of Youngstown. MaryAnn Ferguson-Rich and James Bell will serve as co-chairs for the event. Strict rules for entry of items will be followed and prize ribbons awarded for the winners. A variety of sections of displays will be featured in the show with various classes under each section. Entries for the show will be accepted from 4 to 5:30 p.m. prior to the dinner.
