League of Women Voters hosts 'Smart Chicks Vote!' event
The League of Women Voters of Tallmadge (LWV) will host "Smart Chicks Vote!" Aug. 27 on the patio of the Firehouse Grill and Pub. The League hosts this event annually to celebrate the anniversary of Women's Equality Day when the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was officially certified in 1920 guaranteeing women the right to vote.
"Smart Chicks Vote!" is an opportunity for prospective LWV members to learn more about the League of Women Voters and its work on expanding voter service, redistricting reform, the Voting Rights Act, immigration, citizen's rights, judicial reform and its many other advocacy efforts. The happy hour type event will run from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Tallmadge LWV coordinates Voter Awareness Nights, hosts distinguished speakers, sponsors programs on timely issues, organizes voter registration drives, and lobbies legislators at every level on good government issues. Reservations for "Smart Chicks Vote!" may be made by contacting Kim Ray at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
