Kids Creations for preschoolers
Kids ages 3 through 7 can participate in hands-on art projects and experiments at TRC's Kids Creations Sept. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This month's theme is Fall Fun. Last day to register is Sept. 8.
The TRC invites boys and girls ages 8 through 12 to take their Nerf gun of choice and some extra ammo to this event Sept. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. for target practice, zombie games and a team capture the flag challenge. Cost includes snacks. Protective eye gear is required for all participants. Register by Sept. 10.
Labor Day 5K registration now open
The Tallmadge Recreation Department will host its annual Labor Day 5K and 1 mile Family Fun Run Sept. 1. The races will start at the TRC. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the fun run begins at 9:05 a.m. The path runs through the neighborhoods adjacent to the TRC and ends with a loop around the indoor track. Race fee includes computerized chip timing, T-shirt, refreshments and prizes for the top finishers in all age groups (five year increments). Visit http://www.rsracingsystems.com/ to register online.
Tallmadge Recreation Center closed for Labor Day
The TRC will be closed for Labor Day Sept. 1 and will reopen at 5 a.m. Sept. 2.
Little Leapers gymnastics
Little Leapers is a program that will introduce children to the world of gymnastics on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings, Sept. 19 through Oct. 25. The Dynamic Duo class is for parents and children ages 18 months through 3 and will take place 5:30 to 6 p.m. Fridays and 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Parents of children ages 3 through 4 may sign up for the Puddle Jumpers class, offered Fridays, 3 to 3:45 p.m. or Saturdays, 10 to 10:45 a.m. Pond Hoppers is for children ages 4 1/2 through 5 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays and 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. Class for children ages 6 though 8, called Rising Stars, will be 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturdays. Puddle Jumpers, Pond Hoppers and Rising Stars will introduce participants to beginning skills and progressions on floor, vault, beam and bars. Register at the TRC or online by Sept. 15.
Dance & Cheer
TRC is offering a recreational dance and cheer class for children ages 4 through 10 Saturdays, Sept. 20 through Nov. 8. Class for ages 4 and 5 is 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. and class for ages 6 through 10 is 10:20 to 11:05 a.m. Participants will learn the fundamentals of dance, cheerleading and fitness. The session will end with a dance and cheer performance by each class at their regularly scheduled class time. Participants should take a water bottle and dress comfortably in workout or dance attire and athletic shoes. Register by Sept. 15.
Youth Hummingbird beginning soccer league
TRC will host youth Hummingbird soccer league for ages 3 through 6 Sundays, Sept. 21 through Oct. 26. Ages 3 and 4 will have class from 1 to 2 p.m. and ages 5 and 6 will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Each class includes instruction in the basics of soccer like dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and positioning and low-key, non-competitive games. All coaching will be done by the TRC coaching staff. Parents may assist in coaching. Indoor turf shoes, regular tennis shoes, gym or athletic shoes must be worn. No cleats of any type will be permitted. The cost includes a team t-shirt and soccer medal. Register by Sept. 15.
Little Hoop Stars Beginner Basketball League
TRC will host youth little Hoop Stars basketball league for ages 4 through 6 Sundays, Sept. 21 through Oct. 26, 3 to 4 p.m. Each class includes instruction in the basics of basketball like dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense and rebounding and low-key, non-competitive games. All coaching will be done by the TRC coaching staff. Parents may assist in coaching. The cost includes a team T-shirt and soccer medal. Register by Sept. 15.
Community Open Sewing Days
TRC will host Community Open Sewing Days Mondays, 2 to 6 p.m. beginning Sept. 8. The program will be ongoing. Anyone interested may take their own sewing machine to the TRC for these drop in sewing days. Projects include baby quilts, duffle bags and other creations to give to local organizations in need. Donated fabrics and accessories will be used, so donations are welcome. Participants may take their own fabric to complete their own projects in the company of others. Some sewing knowledge is preferred, but more accomplished sewers in the group will help those who need to get back into the swing of things if they need assistance. Participants may attend as often as they wish and stay as late as they'd like.
