Tallmadge Foundation offers scholarship established
for Dr. John, Nancy Massoud
The Tallmadge Foundation announces a new scholarship established by the Massoud sisters, all graduates of Tallmadge High School. Mary Massoud (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Tricia (Peter) Kubisiak (Crested Butte, Colo.), Teri (Joe) Smith (Crested Butte, Colo.) and Susan (Brian) Hayes (Menasha Wis.) are honoring the memory of their parents who recently passed away.
Dr. John "Doc" Massoud, 84, died July 29, 2016, after suffering a stroke. He graduated from South High School, attended Kent State University and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Case Western Reserve University in 1961. John served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954. He married Nancy Walsh in 1960, and they were married for 56 years. In 1964, John started his own dental practice on East Avenue in Tallmadge. He retired in 2009 after practicing for 48 years. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the city for his decades of community involvement, including his dedicated service on the Tallmadge School Board.
Nancy (Walsh) Massoud, 82, died Aug. 11, 2016, following a lengthy illness, and 13 days after her husband died. Born and raised near Chicago, Ill., she earned her undergraduate degree from Rosary College and then attended Case Western Reserve University graduate school. Nancy was a supportive wife and loving mother as she volunteered for many years in the community and Tallmadge City Schools.
The Massouds are also survived by six grandchildren: Madeline, Nick, Camille, Jake, Justin, Sarah, Sophia and Natalie. For the many people who knew John, they would agree with his sister Barbara's statement, "He never met a stranger." John himself said, "What a beautiful life we had and what beautiful people we met." Nancy said of John, "Best father and grandfather you could ever have." The Dr. John and Nancy Massoud Scholarship will be endowed to ensure its continuance. This endowment will annually provide a scholarship to a Tallmadge High School graduating senior. Anyone wishing to honor the memory of the Massouds may send donations payable to: Tallmadge Foundation Massoud Scholarship, P.O. Box 62, Tallmadge OH 44278.
