Catholic Schools Week

St. Matthew Parish School, 2580 Benton Ave., Akron, celebrated Catholic Schools Week with a weeklong series of activities designed to energize, educate and engage students within the community.

St. Matthew is small, tight-knit community drawing a diverse student body from Akron, Tallmadge, Springfield, Uniontown, Green, Mogadore and Suffield. The school promotes strong academics, faith formation and extracurricular activities.

Students regularly participate in service-learning and this past week was no exception. Students, in prekindergarten through eighth-grade participated in fundraising activities to draw attention to the American Heart Association's research efforts and to promote healthy living. The week also featured the first Annual Geography Bee, Silly Sock and Hat Day, Book Fair, Prayer Service and All-Out Spirit Day, culminating in a volleyball game where faculty took on the students.
