Tallmadge City Schools present College and Career Week 2016 Oct. 10 through 13

Dunbar Primary School

As part of a districtwide initiative to get students thinking about their futures, there will be activities featured all week.

In addition to the following activities, students will explore careers during Technology and participating in career based activities during Library.

Oct. 10 -- Career Exploration. Students will explore a variety of careers in their classroom.

Oct. 11 -- THS Visits Dunbar. Tallmadge High School seniors will visit each classroom to share their plans after high school and encourage positive characteristics in students to achieve success.

Oct. 12 -- When I Grow Up. Students will select a career they may want to pursue in the future and draw a portrait of themselves in that career.

Oct. 13: College Day. Staff and students wear their favorite college apparel.

Munroe Elementary School

Oct. 11 -- When I Grow Up. Students will write about career they may want to pursue in the future and draw a portrait of themselves in that career.

Oct. 11 -- THS Visits Munroe. Tallmadge High School seniors will visit each classroom to share their plans after high school and encourage positive characteristics in students to achieve success.

Oct. 13 -- College Day. Staff and students wear their favorite college apparel.

Tallmadge Middle School

During the week students will learn about where the staff attended college and their degrees through bulletin boards, informational displays outside classrooms, and classroom discussions.

Oct. 10 -- Morning Meeting. A college vocabulary term of the day will be introduced. this will be a daily activity all week.

Oct. 11 -- College Spirit Wear Day. Teachers lead discussions focusing on college and their college experience.

Oct. 12 -- College Pennant/Research Activity. Students research a college, available majors, entrance requirements.

Oct. 13 -- Morning Meeting. Students will participate in a Kahoot with questions based on college terms of the week.

College Spotlight Contest Entries Due. During the week, students will complete fact finding sheets for the college of their choice. A winner will be selected and entries will be displayed throughout the school.

The PSAT 8/9 will be given to all eighth graders on Oct. 19. The middle school will use the results to assist with college and career exploration. Results will be provided at the MS Career Night in the spring. More information will be provided closer to the event.

Tallmadge High School

Oct. 10 -- College visit to The University of Akron for any interested senior 8:30 a.m. to noon. Lunch provided; Scholarships 101, James Hillegas, THS graduate, Project Room, A and C academy;

Oct. 11 -- ASVAB given to all registered ninth though 12th grade students, 7:20 a.m., Community Room; Military fair during academy, in Rotunda; Visiting colleges: Miami of Ohio University, B academy, Counseling Office; Marietta College, C academy, Counseling Office;Seniors to Dunbar Primary for College Talks, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Oct. 12 -- Student Accessibility workshop, in library, will begin at 6 p.m.; Fith annual College Information Night at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium; Seniors to Munroe Elementary for College Talks from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Oct. 13 -- Students/staff wear college gear; Staff displays college corners, college/career talks with students, first or last 5 minutes of block; College visit to Stark State College and Kent State-Stark Campus for any interested senior, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Visiting colleges: The College of Wooster, B academy, Counseling Office.

Oct. 14 -- Off for NEOEA Day.

College/Career

Visit Day

Any student who turns in documentation that they visited a college campus, met with a military recruiter or job shadowed will be entered into a drawing for gift cards and other prizes.

Other dates to remember:

Oct. 18 -- Visit to Kent State University for any interested senior, 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Oct. 19 -- PSAT given to all registered 10th- and 11th- grade students, 7:20 a.m. in the Library, Project Room, Community Room.

November is Ohio Application Month

Nov. 3, 4, 10 and 11 -- Counselors will be in the Project Room to assist seniors with college applications.
