by Mike Lesko | Reporter Incumbent Tim Ryan, who was victorious in the reconfigured U.S. Congress District 13 seat, plans to "continue to focus on improving the lives of working families as the economy continues to come back." Ryan (D-Niles) defeated challenger Dr. Marisha G. Agana (R-Warren), a board-certified pediatrician, 227,076 to 86,269, according to final but unofficial figures from the Ohio Secretary of State's website. Ryan garnered 72.47 percent of the vote. "I look forward to continuing to work on economic development in our area, as well as improving funding for education at all levels," Ryan said. "I'll continue to spotlight the TechBelt Initiative which stretches from the shores of Lake Erie all the way to Pennsylvania and West Virginia. "If we can continue to leverage our regional assets and continue to transition to a knowledge-based economy -- parlayed with our tradition-rich industrial and academic resources -- it will drive us to reach our optimal potential in the decades to come -- and that means steady job growth," Ryan said. Agana, 52, did not return a call for comment. Ryan, 39, is currently the U.S. Representative for Ohio's 17th Congressional district, serving since 2003. New Congressional District 13 will include some areas which are part of Ryan's current district. The term is for two years. "I believe the people of Northeast Ohio are very genuine and pragmatic in nature, and look for elected officials that represent their core principles but are willing to work in bipartisan manner to achieve great things," Ryan said. "I think we share a commitment to the values of our community, and an understanding of the importance of bringing the public and private sectors together to create jobs and economic opportunity for everyone," he said. The new 13th District will include parts of Portage County including Streetsboro, parts of Summit County including Cuyahoga Falls and Tallmadge, part of Stark County including Alliance, all of Mahoning County except Canfield and most of Trumbull County.
