Voters return Sawyer to state Senate

Published:

From Staff Reports Incumbent Thomas C. Sawyer, a Democrat, has been re-elected to the District 28 seat in the Ohio State Senate against Republican Robert Gregory Roush, 46, of Cuyahoga Falls, in the Nov. 6 General Election. According to final but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections, Sawyer received 100,310 votes to Roush's 39,979 in the Nov. 6 General Election. Neither responded to a request for comment by press time. Sawyer has been a state senator since 2007 and served as a U.S. Congressman from 1987-2002. He was the mayor of Akron from 1984-1986 and a state representative from 1977-1983. Sawyer says he will unveil a two-part proposal in January to address fixing the school funding formula in Ohio. The 28th Senate District was redrawn to reflect changes in the state's population. It now includes Portage County and some parts of Summit County, including Cuyahoga Falls.
