Willow and Other Art Nouveau Alphabets is the theme of the September Scripts & Scribes meeting.
The meeting, which will be Sept. 5 at 7 p.m., will be at the Fairlawn West Church of Christ, 2095 W. Market St. in Akron. Anne Gingrich will give the program.
Those attending should bring graph paper, pencil, eraser and black Micron Pigmas -- two or more different sizes.

4Cats Acorn Alley is hosting an open house event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 at the studio, 144 E. Main St. in Kent.
Gallery owners and curators are Michele Ferrara and Joelle Liedtke. Visitors will be treated to a tour of the Acorn Alley studio and take part in super fun 4Cats art activities including spin art and paint splattering.

Women's singing group seeks new members
The Sto-Notes, a non-profit organization comprised of women ages 18 and older that come from Stow and surrounding communities, like to sing in three-part harmony and add choral choreography to enhance their numbers.
The Sto-Notes meet on Monday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. from Sept. 9 through May at the Stow Community United Church of Christ, 1567 Pilgrim Drive in Stow. Judith Mikes is the director, Heather Kleman is the assistant director, Betsy Frasure and Joyce Sainato are the accompanists. There are no audition requirements.

The Stow Youth Symphony is comprised of students from Stow and surrounding communities who are in fourth through twelfth grades.
These auditioned youngsters combine their talents to perform concert programs for a variety of audiences including the Children's Hospital Holiday Tree Festival, many senior citizens' facilities, and The Stow-Munroe Falls Community Showcase. This non-profit organization is directed by Mrs. Judith Mikes.
Rehearsals are every other Tuesday from to 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 10. There are openings in all orchestra sections: strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion including piano accompanists. Audition requirements include playing a prepared piece, scales, and sight-reading.

Stow Players has a mix of drama, musical and comedy in its 2013-14 lineup.
The theater will opens its season in November with "Drop Dead!" by Billy Van Zandt, which will run Nov. 8 through 23. Dave Sherman will direct. There will be auditions for this show Aug. 25 and 26 at 7 p.m. in the Stow Acme Community Room.
Stow Players will next present its holiday show, "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus" by Jamie Gorski from Dec. 13 through 21. Kathrine Dannemiller will direct. Auditions are October 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the Stow Heritage Barn.
The theater will start 2014 with "Where's Charley" by George Abbott and Frank Loesser, which will run Jan. 31 through Feb. 22. Dustin Oliver will serve as director and musical director. Auditions will be Nov. 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. at the Stow Heritage Barn.
The theater's 61st season will close with "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" by Tennessee Williams, which will run March 14 through 29. Bill Morgan will direct. Auditions will be Jan. 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. at the Stow Heritage Barn.
