Weathervane Playhouse, at 1301 Weathervane Lane in Akron, introduces a new playwrighting competition as well as its annual 8X10 Festival.

Weathervane Playhouse will host the Nora Scott New Play Festival on March 8 from 2 until 5 p.m.

Weathervane Playhouse is now accepting scripts for the festival until 11:59 p.m. Feb. 21. Playwrights of selected works will have their plays read publicly as part of the first Nora Scott New Play Festival.

The Nora Mae Scott New Play Festival recognizes the cultural richness permeating Northeast Ohio and is named in honor of Nora Mae Scott; the first African American employee at Weathervane.

Plays of any length relating to culture, race and diversity are eligible. Mailed submissions should be forwarded to Nora Scott New Play Festival, Weathervane Playhouse, 1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron 44313. Early submissions are strongly encouraged.

For additional information, please contact Jennifer Kay Jeter at 330-836-2626 or 330-812-0101.

Playwrights also are encouraged to submit plays for the annual 10-minute play contest. Volunteer judges will read and choose eight finalist plays to be performed at the Playhouse during TheatreFest Weekend, July 11-13, 2014. Audience members will vote for their favorites and, following Sunday's matinee, winners will be announced and cash prizes awarded.

Guidelines and submission information for playwrights can be found at http://www.weathervaneplayhouse.com/8x10TheatreFest.
