Girl Scouts of northeast ohio summer camp programs

Akron ZooCamps

When: June through August

Where: Akron Zoo, 504 Euclid Ave., Akron

Cost: Early childhood camps are $30 per child for Akron Zoo members and $35 per child for non-members. The cost for a three-day camp is $65 for Akron Zoo members and $70 for non-members. Five-day camps are $95 for Akron Zoo members and $100 for non-members. Camps for 13 - 15 year olds are $115 for Akron Zoo Members and $135 for non-members. The full day camps that are available for 7-12 year olds are $160 per child for Akron Zoo members and $180 for non-members.

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Zoo will be offering 25 different ZooCamps for kids ages 2 through 15. ZooCamp are available in either one-day, three-day or five-day sessions.

Registration is required and space is limited. Children will learn about the zoo's animals and their environments, conservation programs and what it is like to work at the zoo.

Early childhood camps for kids ages 2 through 5 include a tour of the zoo, t-shirt, animal encounter, snack, take home craft, free play, music and stories. A caregiver must accompany kids attending the early childhood camps. They can choose from five different camps including Z is for Zookeeper, You Otter be Here, Playtime at the Zoo, Who Wants to be a Vet? and Paws, Claws and Jaws. ZooCamp for kids ages 5 through 15 includes a tour of the zoo with a ZooCamp coordinator, a chance to meet zoo staff, an up-close experience with animals, t-shirt, photo, snack, souvenir, take-home craft and much more. Kids in this age group can choose either three or five day camps and themes include Rockin' Reptiles, Cool Cats, Design a Zoo, Great Grizzlies, Zoo Vet, Working at the Zoo, Predators of Grizzly Ridge and more.

Each session is limited to 15 campers and pre-paid reservations must be made in advance.

Hargrave Summer School and Camp

Where: Hargrave Military Academy, main campus, Chatham, Va.

Hargrave 2014 Summer Leaders Course

Where: Hargrave Military Academy, main campus, Chatham, Va.

Cost: $600 boarding, $300 day

Features: A five day overnight leadership camp for boys and girls aged 12 to 18. Camp activities include training for young adults interested in the qualities of leadership set in a fun and intensive training course.

Northampton Christian Preschool Summer Camp

When: June 25-July 30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Camp Globo

Where: 4540 Stow Road, Stow, inside Hickey Karate Center

Cost: Early bird (through May 1): full two-week session is $475; one week is $261.50. Regular rates are $500 for two weeks and $275 for one week

Features: Camp Globo is a foreign language immersion day camp which aims to offer all the fun and adventure of traditional day camps but the guides (camp counselors) speak 90% of the time in a foreign language to the campers. This year's camp is for Spanish.

Old Trail School Camp

Features: This year's program has more than 150 options for campers aged 3 to 17 years, with many expanded offerings for teenagers. The Camp is on the Old Trail School campus in Bath. Half and full-day camps are offered with extended day (early morning and late afternoon) options for working parents. Transportation is available from Hudson with a van that departs from Redeemer Church, 190 W. Streetsboro Road, at 8:20 a.m. and returns at 3:25 p.m. daily. Campers may pack their lunch or may choose to purchase "fresh from scratch" lunches prepared daily using local vegetables and fruits.

Liberty Camp for kids

Features: Open to all children entering Grades 1 through 6 this fall. Children will learn about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Revolutionary War, the Bill of Rights and our founding fathers through hands-on, fun experiences like re-enacting the Boston TEA Party, the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, and Washington crossing the Delaware; playing games like British Dodge Ball; making crafts from colonial times; interacting with historical re-enactors; exploring the Wigwams at Fort Dakota; and more.

Falcon Camp

Features: Designed for boys and girls ages 6 to 16 in 2, 4, 6 or 8 week sessions, campers choose their own schedule within a general framework and daily activities are separate with planned coed events. Riding, sailing, swimming, riflery, crafts, tennis, drama, archery and so many more activities are offered. Instruction from beginner to advanced is offered in each activity. The 1:4 staff/camper ratio allows individual instruction and attention. Falcon also has a special intro program for campers ages 6 to 9.
