Tallmadge High School Student Senate collects money for Sandy Hook shooting victims

Tallmadge -- The Student Senate at Tallmadge High School has raised $772 for the families of those who were wounded or killed during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Conn., Dec. 14.

Student Senate raffled a Christmas tree during a basketball game that evening, raising $240.

The collection continues through today as students, teachers and staff drop change into containers in classrooms and during lunch periods. So far, another $532 has been raised.

Donations are being accepted from the community at the high school until the end of the school day.

To donate to the families through United Way of Western Connecticut, drop off a check made out to Tallmadge High School with "Sandy Hook" in the memo line. Donations cannot be accepted over the phone or online.
