Ohio Historical Society gives city $1,000 for Historic Church

Tallmadge -- The Ohio Historical Society has given the city of Tallmadge $1,000 to use for something related to the Historic Church on the Circle.

Burt Logan, executive director of the OHS, presented the check to city administrators and City Council earlier this month.

Jane Mason, a spokeswoman for the OHS, says the state's 2012-13 biennial budget allocated $750,000 to the OHS that was previously designated for a history project that hasn't materialized. The OHS took $75,000 of that money and is distributing it to its sites that have management agreements with other entities for operations and upkeep.

The city of Tallmadge manages and maintains the Historic Church on behalf of the OHS.

Mayor Dave Kline says the money already has been deposited into the city's general fund and will be re-appropriated so that it may be spent.

"We don't know exactly what we're going to do, but we'll do something that normally doesn't get done," he says. Possibilities are landscaping around the church and cleaning the carpet inside the building.
