Tallmadge -- First Baptist Church of Tallmadge, the second-oldest church in the city, is celebrating its 75th anniversary April 7.

To mark the occasion, Pastor Stephen L. Mortimer will present a program about the church's history from 10 a.m. to noon at the church, which is located at 848 Southeast Ave.

The program will include testimonies and music from former members.

Following the program, attendees who have made advance reservations will partake in a dinner at the church.

The Rev. B.F. Cate founded the church as the Fundamental Baptist Church on April 10, 1938, in Mogadore. At the time of its founding, 21 parishioners were in attendance.

Today, the church that's now known as First Baptist Church of Tallmadge has 29 members.
