Tallmadge seeking applicants for Ward 3 City Council seat

Published:

The city is asking any Ward 3 Democrats interested in serving on City Council to send a letter of interest and brief resume to Clerk of Council Susan Burton, 46 North Ave., Tallmadge 44278, as soon as possible.
Ward 3 is the southeast quadrant of the City. If anyone has questions as to whether they reside in Ward 3, they may call the Council Office at 330-633-0856.
The charter mandates the city’s Democratic precinct committee members in Summit and Portage counties replace Ward 3 Councilman Jim Donovan within 30 days of his vacancy, which will be Dec. 31.
Donovan was the top vote-getter in the November general election in a race for three at-large spots on City Council.
The city’s law department, in conjunction with the Summit County Board of Elections and the Summit County Democratic Party, will schedule a date for Ward 3’s five precinct committee members to meet soon after the seat is vacated Dec. 31.
According to city charter, if the precinct committee members fail to make an appointment, the remaining members of Council will have 14 days to make an appointment. If Council fails to make an appointment, the mayor will make an appointment within 14 days.
