Tallmadge -- Members of the Ward 3 precinct committee for the Democratic Party of Summit County elected Mary Tricaso to fill a vacant seat on City Council Jan. 16.
Three candidates applied to be considered for the post that previous Ward 3 representative Jim Donovan left after six years when voters elected him to an At-Large seat last November. His last day in office representing his ward was Dec. 31, 2013.
Applicants Anthony Conti, husband of Deputy Clerk of Council Regina Conti, and Tricaso were present during the meeting and earned nominations of committee members, but Bryan Kiko, who also applied for the post, was absent and not able to be nominated.
Members of the precinct committee cast three votes in favor of Tricaso and two for Conti.
"I feel very privileged to be able to fill this position, especially growing up in Tallmadge," Tricaso, a 1981 graduate of Tallmadge High School, told the Tallmadge Express. "I like the idea of giving back, especially to a community that was so good to me. I'm looking forward to growing in this position as a representative, personally and professionally."
Ward 3 is the southeast quadrant of the city.
Mayor Dave Kline swore Tricaso into office after the meeting. She'll serve the remaining two years of Donovan's term.
Tricaso earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and sales from the University of Akron in 1987 and has spent the past 20-plus years of her career in hospitality sales. She is the director of sales for the Akron/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau.
In addition to spending time as an elected member of the committee, Tricaso enjoys being a member of the Volunteer Committee for the Bridgestone Invitational World Golf Championships and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival in Canton.
She is also on the University of Akron's Medical Assistants Advisory Board, a member of the Ohio Society of Association Executives, Catholic Charities and the National Association of Sports Consortiums.
