Questions about Republic Waste Services? City of Tallmadge provides some answers

Effective Jan. 1, the city’s weekly trash collection service changed and the sole carrier became Republic Waste Service. Distribution to residents of a 96-gallon cart for trash and a 65-gallon cart for recycling has begun. Many residents have already received their first quarterly billing for $41.70 ($13.90 per month) for the category “unlimited service,” which resulted in a reduction of $6.42 to last year’s quarterly rate (or $25.68 annually).
Unlimited service entitles residents to unlimited weekly household trash and recyclables. Residents may place additional bags of trash or recyclables at the curb as well as those occasional bulk items without any extra charge.
In addition to this service, the city administration has asked that a “low volume” service also be provided to residents. As a result, Republic has added this service effective Feb. 1 and the cost will be $31.85 ($9.92 per month). Residents choosing this “limited” service will be allowed to put one 30-gallon can or bag of trash at the curb each week. On occasion, if residents place more than one bag or can of trash at the curb, the driver will make note of it and a $2.25 per bag charge will be added to the next bill.
Also, should residents have large bulk items (sofa, chair, table, mattress, etc.) they will be charged $5 to $15 per item. Residents must provide their own bags or cans. Included in the low-volume service is a 65-gallon recycling cart that will be collected at the curb every week. Residents who presently have a Republic Services 96-gallon trash cart may switch it for the smaller container if they choose to switch to the low-volume service.
Those who would like to make changes to their present service are asked to call Republic at 800-247-3644.  
An additional note: the carts are the property of Republic Services. Should they become damaged, residents are asked to contact the customer service department at 800-247-3644 and a supervisor will repair or replace the cart at no charge to the homeowner. If a resident moves from the city, they are instructed to leave their cart at the side of the house in view from the road and it will be removed by Republic. If carts are missing, a $75 charge will be added to the resident’s final invoice.
