Stow man pleads guilty, sentenced to 15 years for rape and kidnapping of neighbor

From Stow staff reports Published:

Fishcreek Road resident Filip Konstantinovich, 49, was sentenced to 15 years in prison Feb. 18 after he pleaded guilty to the rape and kidnapping of a neighbor in September.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tammy O'Brien sentenced Konstantinovich and labeled him a Tier III Sex Offender, requiring him to register every 90 days for life.

In September, after a four-day crack cocaine binge, Konstantinovich broke into a neighbor's apartment and raped her at knifepoint, according to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh's office. At one point, the victim pretended to pass out when he was choking her.

Stow police were able to get fingerprints and Konstantinovich's DNA at the scene.

According to Stow Police, officers entered Kostantinovich's apartment after the woman told them he had said he intended to commit suicide. Officers found he had already fled the scene. Warrants were then issued for his arrest.

Two days later, Stow police received a call from an employee at the Walmart on Tallmadge Road in Brimfield that Konstantinovich was inside the store. He was known to be a customer of a bank inside the store, Stow police said.

Brimfield Police Chief David Oliver said officers Russell Diehl and Crystal Casterline joined Tallmadge Police Officers Jon Wright and Mike Scholles in searching the store and parking lot for Konstantinovich. According to Tallmadge Police Chief Don Zesiger, Officer Scholles located Konstantinovich in his car in the parking lot.

He then led officers on a pursuit before he crashed into a utility pole at Howe and Mogadore roads and was arrested, according to the police report.
