Record Publishing Co. offers summer internships each year, and we're fortunate to be joined by some very talented journalism and communications students.
Our interns serve our papers in a variety of capacities, including writing for print and web and shooting photos and video.
Kristen Tomins, a resident of Hudson, joins the editorial department this summer. Kristen just completed her sophomore year at Bowling Green State University, where she's studying public relations, journalism and visual communications. She is a 2012 graduate of Hudson High School. On campus she's involved in The BG News as a social media staff member, the Leaders in Residence Program, the University Activities Organization, and she's a member of the Visual Communication Technology Organization.
Rachel Sluss, who joined us this past January, continues her editorial internship this summer. A 2010 graduate of Louisville High School, Rachel is a magazine journalism major at Kent State University, with a minor in photojournalism. She graduates in December. She was a senior enterprise reporter for the Stater, writing and taking photos for centerpiece and feature articles. She's also a creative writer.
Sophie Kruse is returning for her second consecutive summer with our editorial department. A graduate of Roosevelt High in Kent, she has just completed her sophomore year in The Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, to graduate in 2016. At the university, she has worked for Brick Beats Magazine, OU ONE, The Post, InterActivist, writer, blogger and PR team, Quill and Scroll Society.
Melissa Oravec, a 2012 graduate of Parma Community High School, is an intern with our prepress/creative department. She's studying visual communication design at Kent State University. Through her work at KSU's on-campus bookstore, Melissa is involved with Destination Kent State, an organization which helps acquaint freshmen with the college life. Her goal is to design cars for a living, and after graduating from KSU she plans to do post-graduate work at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the field of industrial design.
We're happy to have them all with us, and we hope you check out their work this summer.
