Tallmadge -- A Tallmadge resident and business owner is making sure that the is sun is always shining on her customers.
Rachael Dawson is the new owner of Hot Zone Tanning Boutique. The salon, located at 322 Darrow Road, went under new ownership May 16. The tanning salon has been at the Darrow Road location for around seven or eight years, but has gone through several different changes in management. It was previously operating as Tan N Glo.
"It was a dream of mine to own my own business," said Dawson, a former personal banker whose father was a business owner.
Hot Zone features seven beds -- including a "dream" bed, facial bed, zone bed and stand-up bed.
Dawson is currently working to make several changes to upgrade the salon -- including changing its name and upgrading the bulbs in the beds. An Aesthetically, Akron artist, Matt Mellinger, is working on a mural that will cover the entire inside of the salon and will depict a beach scene.
Both Dawson and her husband, Rob, are certified tanning consultants.
The former employees went with the previous owners, and Dawson is currently the sole employee at the salon.
"We weren't joking when we said we want to be the face of the place," she said. "I want to make it the new hot spot."
Dawson is also looking to fill a currently empty room with either a nail technician or a spray tanner, to make the salon a "one-stop-shop." She also plans to look into purchasing new beds.
In the future, Dawson said she hopes to add on to her current salon and possibly even open another in the Stow-Kent area.
The hours, which have been revised when the Dawson's took over, are now Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Prices vary from $4 to $9 per visit, and packages are available in one- and three-month increments.
