FeedOhio is conducting a statewide food drive for Good Neighbors to benefit Ohioans in need from Aug. 23 through Sept. 13.
Good Neighbors is a non-profit charitable organization located in Akron and provides food, clothing and household items to those in need.
The dates chosen emphasize Sept. 11, a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Last year, all items collected were donated to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank. However, FeedOhio is working with local charities this year.
Jeannie Peugh, a local FeedOhio representative, said FeedOhio will help three "Good Neighbors" locations that service Cuyahoga Falls, Stow, Munroe Falls, Hudson and Tallmadge.
"I want so much for our communities to really reach out to others," Peugh said. "My sincere desire is to help those who are just going through a hard time. Good Neighbors is a wonderful organization. I am very happy to be able to help in this small way."
FeedOhio is joining Ohio First Lady Karen Kasich, the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community initiatives and community groups statewide to conduct FeedOhio 2014. Tallmadge Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting the campaign in the area.
"Good Neighbors is a great resource for local families in need of a helping hand," Kasich said in a news release. "Their ability to care and serve depends in large part of the generosity of Ohioans. By working together, we can expand our reach and help more people in need."
Local church volunteers will go from door to door to collect donations. Drop-off locations will also be in place from Aug. 24 through Sept. 11. Items requested include peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, canned pasta; and boxed items such as potatoes, noodles side dishes, cake mixes, hamburger, tuna and chicken helper; and one pound bags of rice, canned stew, canned tuna; and toiletries.
