Tallmadge -- Tallmadge police are seeking the public's help in connection with vandalism at Maca Park restrooms late last month which caused about $5,000 in damage.

Police were called to the park, 144 Maca Drive, shortly after 7 a.m. on July 22 and found sinks, toilets and urinals in the restrooms pulled from the walls and smashed. Police Chief Ron Williams said the damage was discovered by someone walking in the park.

"Sometime during the night someone entered the restrooms and caused heavy damage," according to the chief.

"It's unbelievable that no one heard this going on," Mayor Dave Kline told the Tallmadge Express, adding the restrooms are "a mess."

"And people wonder why we lock the rest rooms at night," Kline said.

The police department has acquired a camera that officers can move around to different locations in the hope of catching perpetrators.

"We got it for this type of problem," Williams reports, adding, "We've had damage in the various parks over the years. Two years ago it (vandalism) was at Lions Park."

Anyone with information about the vandalism should contact the Tallmadge Police Department's detective bureau at 330-633-4231.
