Tallmadge City Schools to host Citizen Open House,

building tours

Tallmadge City Schools will host a Citizen Open House and building tours Sept. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. Citizens are invited to tour the Dunbar Primary, Munroe Elementary and Tallmadge Middle School buildings to learn more about the buildings' needs and the upcoming bond issues.

"The Tallmadge City School District is committed to fully explaining to our residents why we have these bond issues on the ballot," said Superintendent Jeff Ferguson. "This open house will allow us to show residents exactly what our buildings need and why the academic bond issue is so important."

This November, the district will have two bond issues on the ballot, one to address academic needs and one to address athletic needs. The 3.86-mill academic bond issue would consolidate the district's primary, elementary and middle schools into two buildings on the current middle school campus, a K-5 building and a 6-8 building. The 0.9-mill athletic bond issue would pay for the relocation of high school athletic facilities, including the stadium, football team room, baseball field and softball complex.

That same evening, citizens are invited to attend the Board of Education meeting at 6 p.m. at the middle school. The Board Meeting will provide further information about the bond issues and the needs of the district.

"It is wonderful to live in a community that is so active and engaged with what's happening in our district," Ferguson said. "I hope that many people come out to learn more about the bond issues they've been hearing about and to see firsthand why they are important."
