“We are distressed and concerned,” said Tallmadge City Schools Chief Operating Officer Steve Wood in regard to allegations made by a parent this morning that the bus driver who takes her children to school segregated the students on the bus.

According to the mother, the white children were placed at the back of the bus and the African American, Hispanic and mixed-race children were placed at the front of the bus.

Wood said the bus driver has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“Any form of discrimination will not be tolerated by the Tallmadge City School District,” said Wood, who noted the district has had no previous problem with this bus driver or any other driver.

According to Wood, Tallmadge City Schools contracts its busing through Petermann Bus and Petermann is in charge of hiring its drivers.
